SF weather is perfect right now, as least the past few weeks, but it can change tomorrow. It's sunny and warm during the day, so you can wear t-shirt, shorts and sandals. In the morning and at night, wear long-sleeved shirts and jeans. No rain. No wind.
There aren't many good restaurants in Chinatown. What do you want to eat? There are a few shops that sell snacks, Gelato, and tapioca drinks. These goodies aren't insanely yummy for recommendations.
If you like
- Chinese baked goods => go to Golden Gate Bakery in Chinatown. They are on vacation right now and won't be back until September.
- burger and beer => SF Brewing Company. Beers are made right at store and very tasty but costs $6 a pint.
- coffee => Caffe Trieste in North Beach
- cheap tacos and beers => Mojito's bar/cafe. $1 taco and $2 beer all day starting at 4pm. Can try their Mojito.
- hot focaccia sandwiches => Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store Cafe by Washington Square
- Irish coffee => Buena Vista Cafe in Fisherman's Wharf
If you are going to SF, you shoud try Zachary's deep dish pizza at Berkeley or Oakland. You would not want to eat any pizza other than Zachary's again..... not really, but is really good.
I had a blast in San Fran.
Spent most of my time here:
1. Golden Bakery Line - egg tarts were delicious, but that's about it.
2. Union Square - shopping, shopping, shopping. Go H&M. Go Zara.
3. Fisher Man's Wharf - yummy seafood.
4. Napa Valley - Wine Tasting + Food.
5. Sacramento - White River Rafting. Got pics to share =)
6. Kim Son Dim Sum
7. Mum's Hot Pot Shabu Shabu Buffet
8. Japan Town - Sushi =)
9. Little Italy - Italian restaurant with no cheese =)
I wanna go back. I love public transportation!!!

I'm going to SF at the beginning of October so I'm bumping this thread so I can read through it later. If you have anymore suggestions, please do share!

Your turn eh. Good choice.
Here's another post that might help you.

I actually got to go on that road for the first time couple of years ago. : ) It was fun and exciting the first time, but I don't think I'll be as excited the second time if I ever go on it again.
It's also nice if you go to Twin Peaks, which are the highest points in SF? Or second highest, I'm not sure. I've only gone there at night, so it was always cold, windy, and sometimes misty. It's quite a scary drive up especially if you go at a foggy time.
I also found this on Yahoo, http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguid...NsawN0aXRsZQ--
So far, I've only gone to the Lombard street, Japanese Tea Garden (7th grade field trip), Exploratorium (12th grade field trip). I actually want to go and do the 49 mile scenic drive. It sounds fun and relaxing.

For all the San Francisco'ers (is that right?), I would greatly appreciate it if you can help me with a route from the airport to my hotel. I'm flying into SFO and my hotel is in Fisherman's Wharf. I know the BART takes you into Union Square but does it goes all the way to Fisherman's Wharf? If not, is there any connecting bus or trolley that will take me from Union Squre to Fisherman's Wharf?
Any information will be of great help. Thanks.

Use the handy Google Transit. It will tell you the optimal public transportation to your destination. I always use it whenever I'm visiting a big city.

Where exactly is your hotel? I can tell you what bus/trolley/cable car to take, since BART does not take you to Fisherman's Wharf.
Things to do:
1. Cable Car ride
It's fun and exciting riding the cable car up and down hills of SF. The one-way fare is $5. So, you'd want to ride from end to end. Make sure to take the Powell-Hyde route, which is longer with steeper hills.
2. Tour Alcatraz Island - Have you seen the Rock with Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage?
Book ahead of time. Alcatraz is very popular.

Places to eat and drinks:
1. Buena Vista's Irish Coffee ($7 per glass) - very strong. It has good shot of whiskey.
- Don't eat here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-6DIdCjpIQ
2. La Trappe Cafe
- cheeseburger or mussels and Belgium fries
- most important of all - drink lots of Belgium beers. They have a huge selection of beers.
3. Boboquivari's The Steak or Bobo's
- get the Porterhouse, baked yam, and a bottle of wine. Yum!
- This place is a little expensive; it will be $100 per person
4. In-N-Out Burger
- cheap and good burgers. They are never frozen.
5. Boudin's Bakery or any stalls that sell clam chowder
- get a cup of clam chowder. NO BREAD. The bread is so thick that you get little amount of soup. It's $7-8
- some fresh seafood
Let me know what else you are interested in. I can make some other recommendation.

jay_z, thanks for the assistance.
I'll be staying here on Friday:
Courtyard San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf
580 Beach Street
San Francisco, California 94133 USA
Then at the Hotel Union Square from Saturday - Monday. But it shouldn't be hard to reverse the direction to get back into Union Square so I'm not too worry about finding my 2nd hotel.
Also thanks for the link PJ. As someone from Texas where everyone have a car (or horse), I'm not very good at navigating public transportation. So I'll be sure to checkout that link and learn more.

Here's how you are going to get to Courtyard.
1. From SFO, take BART (subway) to San Francisco. If unsure which direction, just follow other people.
2. Get off at Montgomery St. and walk up to ground level. You will be on Market St.
3. If you see a McDonald, you walk in the opposite direction. You will see a Ritz Carlton and Kearny St. There is a bus stop on Kearny St. between Market St. and Post St.
4. If you have just a small carry-on, take the 30 bus. The crowded bus will go through Chinatown and North Beach. Get off on Bay St. in front of a Marriott. Walk 1.5 blocks pass the UPS Store and Holiday Inn. Then turn right and you should see Courtyard.
Bus fare is $2. Need exact change.
If you have luggage, take a cab. It's around $12.
-------
Going from Courtyard to Hotel Union Square
1. Walk up on Columbus Ave. There's a bus stop on the right across the street from Marriott.
2. Take the 30 bus
3. Get off on Market St.
4. Walk toward the Apple Store and turn left on Ellis St.
5. Walk one block up to Powell St. and make a right Hotel Union Square right, across from DSW Shoes.
Wow. Thanks jay_z. That's more details than anything Google Map can cough up. =) I will put it to good use. Also, do you know of any good tour to Napa Valley departing from Union Square? I will be checking it out the Sunday that I'm there.
