Default Best Time to Book Plane Tickets

i just did something stupid, and i booked plane tickets at the last minute. if i had done it the day before, i would have saved 60 bucks. so what is the best day to book tickets? and how far ahead of time? does waiting until the last minute ever work? i saw on the news one time that 2am on wednesday is the best time to book. -_- they didn't say why.

also, what is the best medium to book through? online or at a travel agency? i compared expedia, travelocity, orbitz, priceline, and the websites of several airlines, and they were all pretty much the same. my most advantageous option for this trip ended up being booking directly through continental one-way going there, and returning via united through priceline.

i also considered the option of taking a train. but that, strangely, cost more than flying.

You have to plan ahead and buy your plane tickets at least 21 days earlier or months earlier especially for holiday flights like in November and December.

Inquire about standby fares if you're flying off-season. High season is a bad time to fly standby because most airlines overbook flights, making it difficult to find a spare seat.

I always thought booking at the last minute is bad. I mean my friend he bought plane tickets at the last minute and it cost him about 1, 000something when he could've bought it cheaper, if he had booked his tickets months in advance.

Hmmm...USA TODAY has some tips and guide for booking plane tickets online:

    http://www.usatoday.com/travel/tips/...-airline_x.htm

    http://www.soyouwanna.com/site/syws/...netixfull.html

I believe theres a bunch of tips you can find, if you google it.

i know people who have booked their fights a year ahead in order to save money! thats crazy but atleast they've saved like $100 off each person.

well im guessing that as soon as you've figured out where you want to go to book it as early as you can, but the air prices would be almost the same for each agency since oil prices are rising and airlines are becoming surprisingly cheap these day and cut back on everything.

it all comes down on luck.

I have book a year ahead but my friend that always fly said its too early. I just copy her and do it 3 months before I have to go and its not bad. Usually on a Tuesday, wed, or Thursday is good. I notice kayak is cheap compare to some of the other companies.
