Default Can anyone recommend any good or popular cantonese or mandarin songs?

I am from the UK, and my collection of chinese songs isn't that huge. Can anyone recommend any good songs? I don't understand chinese very well, so the song would have to be in english.

    Thanks

well, what genre do you like? pop songs? ballads? dance? theme songs? and do you have a gender preference? solo, group, or duets, etc?

bc if you don't specify, ppl are just gonna recommend you a lot of pop and old theme songs. be prepared for a lot of lyf.

    My recommendation:

強 (Strong) - 郭富城 (Aaron Kwok)

The lyrics is very positive, but even if u don't understand the lyrics, the music itself will live your spirit up.

I remember during my uni days, we were playing this song quite loud one day, and one of my housemates suddenly felt the urge to study after listening to this song. He actually told us the song made him want to go study.

Any Jay Chou (Zhou Jie Lun) album is always a good start imo.. ^^ Eg. Fa Ru Xue (Hair like snow), Qian Li Zhi Wai (Beyond A Thousand Miles aka Faraway), Ting Ma Ma De Hua (Listen To Mother's Words)..

I'm into er, I dunno, do u called it rnb?? I prefer like slow sentimental/ballads...
there's really a lot out there.. i'm currently in to Nicholas Teo (Zhang Dong Liang)'s new album Wang Zi.. And also JJ's (Lin Jun Jie) song Xi Jie (West Side) and Sha Shou (Killer)

Also, Wang Lee Hom songs, like "Xin Zhong De Ri Yue": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dafYUX9JBQs, "Hua Tian Chou": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_TXOeGk3Cs, "Forever Love": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u5_atghLJw, "Astrology": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYRPZl08zVw, etc.

Slow sentimental ballad songs are confirmed RnB or pop; depends on the tune, of course.

Try Tao Zhe (David Tao) -- Tian Tian/close to you, angel, Hei se liu ding/black tangerine, melody or Sha Tan/Blue Moon

Or Chen Qi Zhen (Cheer Chen) -- Lü xing de yi yi (Meaning of travel) or Ji ta shou
