I think you're referring to Gwok Jing here, but remember: Gwok Jing made it very clear to Kublai Khan in ROCH. It was not for the emperor and never was; it was always about the millions of Han living in Sung China threatened by Mongolian invasion.

About the H7G/OYF death scene, I found a lot of the shine taken off the TSTL/LQS final scene due to the similarities it shared with that earlier ROCH scene. It lost its uniqueness.

The long bitter fight between lifelong rivals.
The stubborness to fight until exhausted to near death.
The final epiphany.
The reconciliation seconds before death.
