Yes- thanks for all the info, Wuxiagem, now I REALLY want to see it. Fast paced and not boring is good. 40 episodes seems like an ok number, not too long, not too short. Besides, I am dying to see Tony play a bad guy.

I agree w/ cheeky. the problem i have with 5566 as a whole is their image. first of all, i met them in the last ep of dolphin bay, where they sang this song, and it was HORRIBLE (bad bad singing, amazingly bad song). so i never had a very good impression of them. plus, their name itself annoys me. who calls themselves wu wu liu lius? more like qi qi ba bas...
To bluegirl,
I am really confused by your message.. I guess I respect the fact that you don't like 5566, but what do you mean by you met them in the last ep of Dolphin Bay?? What about their image that bothers you? I have heard them sing live and it is still pretty good, especially Zax and Tony since they are the lead singers. I admit that Sam and Jason don't sing as well but they have other areas that they are more talented in. Also, I admit that their name 5566 sounds kind of strange. I honestly at first did not understand why they choose that name for their group, but now I finally know and I think it is interesting and meaningful. The 55's stand for the 5 people in their group(they originally had 5 members, but Rio had to leave due to a severe injury) and the 66's represent the 6 areas that they concentrate on(acting, singing, dancing, hosting and 2 others that I forgot).
But like I said, YOU NEED TO WATCH A SERIES FOR MORE THAN JUST THE CAST!!!!
Respect other people's opinions and views. If we learn how to do that than all of these fights and arguments will not occur.
I'm not a big fan of 5566 either, but i might have a look anyway. It seems half fantasy though, which i don't find that promising. It could potentially be very bad. 40 episodes is the standard number i expect from most series, although i certainly don't mind if it's shorter if most of it is filler and boring or lame conversation.
Talk about star wars from the preview. They have sabres! (using their fingers and the light coming out them)
Liu Tao looks lovely though.
The first 28 episodes went by pretty quickly partially because the episodes were rather short (37 minutes each) and partially because the story is intriguing. Tony's character does not have a wide range of emotions; he shifts from being calculating to being angry to being jealous. I don't know if he has ever acted before but he does *not* seem like an amateur yet his performance is not rave-worthy either because his character is supposed to be rather wooden and 2-dimensional. In short, he is doing an adequate job so no complaints from my end
For those who cannot read Chinese, I can summarize a bit about the series here (minor spoilers ahead):
English Title: The Sword and the Chess of Death
Synopsis: 500 years ago, a general has hidden a treasure inside the Chess of Death. It is said that the one who obtains this treasure would be able to conquer wulin. Many factions in the martial arts world are seeking two items: 1) the manual that could help one successfully maneuver the Chess of Death and 2) the Sword of Life and Death (Lin Shuang Jian) which is needed to open Chess of Death. Ren Qian Xing (Tony Sun) and Yan Cang Feng (Shao Bing) are former friends fated to battle each other in this struggle for the soul of the martial arts world. They are also love rivals for Liu YiYi (Liu Tao), the Goddess of Food and the inheritor of the Passionless Clan.
Main Characters:
Yan Cang Feng (played by Shao Bing): Righteous and loyal, studious and well versed in the martial arts, YCF is your typical hero who is also a favorite among the ladies. His father was killed by Guan Yu Tian, Ren Qian Xing's martial arts master. Since then, YCF and his mother has been in hiding, trying to live a normal life. But that quiet life is shattered when he rescues Bai Yu Er and consequently reunites with Ren Qian Xing, a childhood friend.
Ren Qian Xing (played by Tony Sun): An expert fighter and quick learner, RQX is a favorite of his martial arts master, Guan Yu Tian. RQX thinks quickly on his feet and adapts well to any given situation. He grew up as an orphan and was jealous of those who had secure family and finances. His ruthless desire for power makes him quick to betray and shift loyalties when it suits him. He loves Liu YiYi (perhaps "obsessed" would be a better word).
Liu YiYi (played by Liu Tao): A leader in the Godlike Food Clan (sorry, I have no idea how to translate Shen Shi Ju), she makes the most delicious dishes known to mankind. As the inheritor of the Passionless Clan, she also wields a zither as a weapon. LYY is a kind and cheerful girl who always tries to see the best in others.
Bai Yu Er (played by Ting Ting): She is the adoptive daughter and martial arts student of Liang-Ba Hau. She was sent by Liang to kill Guan Yu Tian (Ren Qian Xing's master and the current evil leader of wulin) but was injured before she could kill her target. Yan Cang Feng found the wounded Yu Er and saved her life. Initially a nice person, she later becomes bitter and jealous when her divided loyalties forced her to choose between her adoptive father and her love, Yan Cang Feng.
Love Triangles: (Yeah, because I'm a girl and I care about this stuff)
Yan Cang Feng:
Loves: Bai Yu Er, Liu YiYi, and Jian Xiong
Loved by: Bai Yu Er, Liu YiYi, and Jian Xiong
*I think some explanation is warranted. Bai Yu Er is YCF's first love. Liu YiYi is his true love/most love. He fell in love with Jian Xiong when he lost his memory but as soon as he regained his memories, he chose LYY.
Ren Qian Xing:
Loves: Liu YiYi
Loved by: Lian Chi Xue (Bai Yu Er's martial arts sister)
Liu YiYi:
Loves: Yan Cang Feng
Loved by: Yan Cang Feng and Ren Qian Xing
Bai Yu Er:
Loves: Yan Cang Feng
Loved by: Yan Cang Feng (at first) and Xiao Yao Lang (a good friend of Yan Cang Feng and Liu YiYi)

Hi WuXiaGem!
Thank you so much for all of the info! Where did you get all of this info? Do you have the Chinese version for it? I want to read it in Chinese.... Sounds interesting and YES of course Tony has acted before, but never in an ancient series so this one is his first ancient series ever. HE wasn't in that many series though and they were all modern. I can list the series that he has been in:
-MVP Qing Ren- 2002 with the rest of 5566(saw this one and he was really sweet as Tai Zi)
-Westside Story-2003, with the rest of 5566. Didn't see this one but heard his acting wasn't bad.
-Mr. Fighting-2005, with Wang Ren Fu from 5566. I loved his character in here too.
-this series in 2006 and he has an upcoming modern one with Qiao Qiao, Xiao Qiao and Wang Yi. I think his acting in Mr. Fighting was the best out of all the series that I have seen of him. He wouldn't be an amateur but isn't really professional either since he has not been in a lot of series. Plus, this is his first time playing a bad guy.
I love the love triangles too. Hey, can a series truly be complete without them?? hee...The story sounds really interesting and I can't wait to see it on DVD....

Hey, no prob! I find it really frustrating when I'm interested in a series but there's no English information on the web about it so I decided to write my own synopsis and character introductions. I can't read Chinese but I was able to get the actors' names from dramawiki (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/The_Sword_...Chess_of_Death). At the dramawiki site, I was able to find the official pages for this drama: http://dcgproduction.com/ and http://www.cts.com.tw/prog/a/a0071/index_news.htm
All the info on these two sites are in Chinese except for a very poorly written synopsis on the DCG Production website. But if you can read Chinese, then those site would be awesome sources.
Hey WuXiaGem!
WOW, thank you sooo much for the sites.... I can read Chinese and all but get so lazy to translate, especially from sources on the net since I would have to sit for a long time in front of the computer and that hurts my eyes. I usually do translations from hard copy texts. I have some text written by Tony which is his mini diary about his feelings when he filmed this series last summer. I want to translate but have been lazy to... Please let me know how the second half of this series is ok?? I really want to know if it will be worth watching... Thanks so much again!

Does anyone know the English translation (literal) of this series? I want to look out for it when it comes out. And yes, I can't read Chinese either.
Edit: never mind, I didn't see the link for WuxiaGem.

I agree with Trinie. Tony Sun was already famous when he was 17 for singing Hokkien songs so I am surprised that anyone would think that his singing is bad, but I guess everyone has their own opinions. In regards to the series, I saw part of episode 2 on youtube and it looks interesting. In fact, I think that the clips/trailer do not do the series justice since it only shows the special effects and may give some viewers the wrong impression.
I agree with Bonnie!! But I must say that the period of time that someone sings does not neccesarily always say how good their singing is because singing is something that you have to be born with. If you naturally don't have a good voice than singing for a long time does help a little, but not much if you just aren't born with the talent to sing.
Also, trailers don't always do a series justice. You really need to see the series for yourself first and do not always go for just the cast since that is really pointless. There is WAY more to a series than the cast....

O_o what's wrong with the name 5566? There is so many other bands with strange names out there. . .anywho. . .what was the song they sung in dolphin bay? Could just be the song. . .they have some good ones and some not so good ones.
Anywho, back to the series, I just saw the first episode so far. . .and it seems interesting to me. I did not read about this series too much but are the two old guys in the beginning suppose to be xie zhe and shao bing's past lives?
I agree Liu Tao looks very pretty in the series. . .but the character's personality so far is kinda weird. One moment she's all happy with shao bing for helping her, then next second she goes crazy about her knife have a little chip. X_x
Some of us needs to learn how to get our priorities straight and others need to start getting some priorities. . .
Yes, her getting angry at Shao Bing was a little out of character but she wanted to meet him again and complaining about her chef's knife was the only excuse she could come up at the moment for meeting him again so that he could pay reparations. Very sneaky and innocent at the same time, this girl
I am not familiar with 5566 but I find the name 183 Club even more weird. It's supposed to be the height of the members but I heard that not all of them are 183cm! And who names their band after their height? That is so weird!
Well, that's like asking, "Why is the hong kong famed dual called twins when they're not twins, or even real sisters?" As Mr. Shakespeare once said through the renowned Juliet, "What's in a name?" Does it matter what their name is, if people want to dislike them they will dislike them no matter if they are called 5566 or Hen Shuai Nan Ren. But I digress. Anywayz, I saw the first episode of Mo Jian Sheng Si Qi on youtube and think it's very promising. Hopefully, the end will not be disappointing.
How come most 江湖 (jiānghú) wanderers never worry about money? I wonder how a 大俠 (dàxiá) make a living...does meddling in people's business and righting wrongs pay well?
About the name of 183 Club, well it is actually the average height of the members, not the height of all the members since not all of them are 183cm. But I agree, if you don't like a group than it really does not matter what they are called...I personally don't think there is anything wrong with 183 naming their group based on their height. I think that is unique.
Yea, I hope this series will have a good ending and all. Sometimes series start out good but then get draggy and has a bad ending. I hope that this one won't.

this looks interesting since tony plays a diferent role than what he usualy plays...he always play mr perfect..its good to have him play sort of a baddie for a change![]()
大爺來了﹗
想唱就唱, 唱得向亮! 力揚加油
MAGIC SHOOTER HISASHI MITSUI!
Does anyone know where I can download the Mp3 for the title song sung by Tony? It's a slow song and I think it is quite nice.
Go here to see the first 28 episodes of the serie, they are in Chinese though:![]()

I don't really know, but I've got the feeling Tony's character wouldn't end up as the really bad guy after all. As for the good guy in here, I find him boring and kinda like a wooden stick.
Too bad there is no such sparkling chemistry between Tony and Liu Tao on screen though.![]()
