Default LUK SIU FUNG: Yim Teet San afraid of Sai Mun Chui Sheut?

In Part 1 of Gu Long's LUK SIU FUNG saga (THE GOLDEN ROC KINGDOM'S TREASURE), former Golden Roc Kingdom Treasurer Yim Teet San (Yim Lap Boon) seemed deathly afraid of Sai Mun Chui Sheut when SMCS came to kill him at the Pearls and Jewels Pavilion. Yim Lap Boon kept backing away from Sai Mun Chui Sheut, and refused to fight him directly, instead sending fourteen of his underlings to futilely die by SMCS's sword.

Sai Mun Chui Sheut was one of the two most deadly swordsmen in the world of LUK SIU FUNG. It's understandable that 99% of wulin would be terrified of facing him. Yip Lap Boon, however, should belong to that 1% that isn't. According to remarks by Luk Siu Fung and Fok Teen Ching, Yim Lap Boon's martial arts were higher than any of theirs...including Sai Mun Chui Sheut's. Indeed, when Yim Lap Boon shouted, his inner power was able to vibrate Sai Mun's sword, which impressed even Sai Mun himself.

Now it could be that Yip Lap Boon was just a coward, but even cowards are only afraid of people who are *stronger* than themselves. If Yim Lap Boon's martial arts were higher than Sai Mun Chui Sheut's, did he really need to be afraid of Sai Mun? It seems that if anybody there that night would not be intimidated by Sai Mun Chui Sheut, it would be Yim Lap Boon (and perhaps Fok Teen Ching).

Maybe it's because Ximen had a reputation for killing, rather than just beating an opponent, and Yan didn't want to die. Or perhaps after all those years having Huo Tianqing to do his dirty work his martial arts level had deteriorated (like in Old Man Sun in Romantic Swordsman). I think it was the very real risk of death which scared him, and perhaps some level of guilt that his just desserts were coming because of what he did to the old king.
