???? KL has some absolutely wonderful restaurants, but you need to be more specific on what you want. One thing which I find very rare in KL is good pork cooked Western style - all the pork-serving restaurants tend to be Chinese, while the Western restaurants seem reluctant to lose half the potential market in the Malay population. I noticed Tony Romas just opened in the Curve, and I was so disappointed to see that the pork ribs I enjoyed so much in Singapore aren't available.

-One of my favorite restaurants in Tokyo is Benihana, it is a traditional teppanyaki (hibachi steakhouse). I love their Benihana Chicken Picante (grilled chicken with a special spicy sauce), banana tempura, and tempura ice cream (pound cake with strawberry ice cream).

-Ninja Akasaka (in Tokyo) is another good place to eat. It's a ninja theme restaurant: the restaurant is designed as a ninja house, and the food is served by "ninja" who also performe magics for guests. The presentation of the food is beautiful and interesting. There are about 100 dishes to choose from. (I recommend their set menu which includes a soup cooked by a stone).

-One Harbour Road (in Hong Kong) is one of the best Cantonese restaurants I've ever been to. The view is exquisite (especially at night, you can see the harbour to Kowloon). The Shark's Fin soup was quite outstanding -- clear, yet with an intense flavour (but I felt guilty after I found out that after they cut off the shark's fin they release back into the water where it will die anyways ). The mango pudding is good too.

Have you ever tried the nasi lemak at Madame Kwan's cafe? I think its very good and it's also inexpensive (the nasi lemak was less than 14 ringgit, 3-4 Americand dollars, 475 Japanese yen).

If you want to pamper yourself, and I recommend that you do, go to Little Penang at Mid-Valley Megamall. Little Penang is a nice olden-day styled coffee shop that serves excellent Laksa. Portions are enormous and surroundings are air-conditioned. The food there is very authentic, spicy and reasonably priced.

Roti Canai is an amazing Malaysian Indian restaurant. The chefs are often huge Indian men wearing nothing but a singlet and sarong (careful because unsightly body parts may be revealed in the event of strong wind ). I recommend the roti served with a curry dip, dhal or fish, chicken, mutton curry gravy. Very yummy! You can also have egg with your Roti if you want. The roti is a very inexpensive not more than 2 ringgits (0.50 American dollar/cents, 59 Japanese yen) per Roti.

The Tandoori chicken at Davis' Corner at Bangsar. The chicken there is perfect, it has the right amount of moisture and taste. I also had the tandoori chicken with the Naan.

Benihana restaurants are chain restaurants. They are in many different cities. Chain restaurants are hit and miss. For example, Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 food in Singapore are delicious but below average in Tokyo. Another is En Japanese Dining Bar is excellent in Singapore but garbage in Hong Kong.

    Imahan (Shinjuku, Tokyo)
    - One good thing about restaurants in the mall in Japan is that each restaurant set 10-20 chairs outside the restaurant for customers to sit while waiting. I had to wait for hour. However, the food was worth it. I ordered the most expensive set dinner on the menu (~$65 USD). Those high quality beef are the most delicious beef I have ever tasted.
    - English menu. You won't find many restaurants in Tokyo that have English menu.

    Soraya:
Can you recommend some inexpensive (below 2500 Yen) restaurant in Tokyo, especially in Shinjuku Area where my base is? I like conveyor-belt sushi restaurants but the one I went to was not good and was crowded.

Do you like MOS Burger? I saw one at Kabuchicho, Tokyo but didn't get to try it. And I didn't know there is one in Hong Kong until I returned to the US.

McDonald's in Japan still deep fried their apple pie. Deep-fried apple pies are so much better than baked pies. I had one a day when I was in Tokyo.

Heyy, I've been there before--Montery Park! It's in LA, right? They had good dim sum stuff. Our travel agency was there.

benihana's is a big chain restaurant. the man who started it all is very rich....so much so that we did a case study on him in business school.

I love MOS burgers! They make an effort to package the food intelligently, e.g. baskets rather than trays, wrapping the burgers so that it is easy to unfold and hold the sandwich for eating, providing little sauce containers, all very civilised and practical.
They're a lot lighter than the American burgers and the burgers at MOS are very unique. The yakiniku MOS rice burger is my favorite. This rice burger is made up of thinly sliced beef that has been stir-fried with bell peppers and onions (I think) and served on compressed "rice buns" with lettuce. While the concept is unusual, I find the taste quite conventional. The "rice buns" are grilled, much like yaki-onigiri (grilled rice ball), but they had soak up the juices from the grilled beef and absorbed their flavor without becoming mushy. The "rice buns" go very well with the grilled beef which has the typical teriyaki beef flavor. The fat fries are also good.
As far as I know there are only locations in Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore. There used to be a few in Hawaii but they all closed (I'm not sure why).

If you like kaiten (conveyor-belt) sushi, then I reccomend Heiroku Sushi. Each sushi plate (two pieces) is about 360 yen (some are less, some are more expansive). They sometimes garnish their sushi with ginger and green onion.

I like Asahi Zushi, its not a kaiten restaurant but the food is great and the people are friendly. There is a 10-piece yuri set that includes maguro, hamachi, tamago, komochi konbu (crunchy herring eggs on kelp), miso soup with nori sea weed, as well as some other things. It costs less than 1700 yen.

    In Shinjuku-
I sometimes go to Keishoan. You can have a nice 7-course Kaiseki meal of skewered chicken and vegetables for 2800 yen (its a little more expensive than your budget but its worth it).
Donto, on the 49th floor of the Sumitomo Building (tel.03/3344-6269), offers a Japanese lunch buffet for 1000 yen and set meals for dinner.
Also my friends say that, Tengu on Yasukuni Dori in East Shinjuku (tel.03/3354-3046)a popular Japanese-style pub with inexpensive meals, is a good place to eat (although I've never been there).

Yes yes. The packaging are all very well-done. Everything's so pretty there that I always feel bad if I spill something onto the little baskets or trays!

As of June'07, Hongkong now has 4 outlets while Thailand has only 1. Everything taste so good in MOS Burger!

Mos Burger and Yoshinoya seems to have a love relationship in Singapore. Wherever there is a MOS or Yoshinoya in a mall, the other will almost always be right at the opposite side so that they face each another!

Walked by the House of Nanking earlier today and use my camera phone to take a picture of the restaurant. Even though I have lived in the neighborhood for a while, I have never walked into that restaurant. Like I said in the earlier post, this restaurant cater to tourists and white people.

    Anybody tried Maisen, Shibuya Tokyo?

Nigo, the fashion designer/music producer, recommended their tonkatsu.

Judging by the theme of this fine establishment, there is no doubt that a visit must be paid when I am in the bay area next time.

There used to be one in Kuala Lumpur, in KLCC, but it closed despite my patronsing them almost weekly and them being packed during lunch time. I really don't know why they disappeared!! Maybe because Malaysians are sick and insist on everything being spicy.

Now we Malaysians have to eat Mos burgers in Singapore - one of the highlights of our company's excursions to Singapore for work.

Can anyone recommend some good Chinese/Asian restaurants in Chicago? The only one I know is Lao Sichuan, and their food is usually hit or miss. I loved their "Sliced Husband and Wife Lungs" cold dish, but their "Fiery Stir-fried Kidney" was flavorless. The dim sum places seem to have good food but very poor service to non-Cantonese customers.

For Vietnamese food, I prefer Tank Noodles on Broadway and Argyle. Their Super Train has the largest bowl that I've ever seen pho come in.

Please recommend restaurants (or anywhere where food may be consumed) that you've been to which offered delicious food. Any type of food is welcome.

Here's a few to kick things off.

San Francisco: House of Nanking - simple-concept foods prepared with otherworldly deliciousness. Ever had pork chop or fried squid? Probably, but most don't taste this good. Mention to the server/owner that you'd like to try the authentic items, and be prepared to stand in line for the next available seat.

Minneapolis: Tea House - Fine Sichuan-style cuisine with their signature sensually numbing spicy flavor. Ate here on 2 occasions and everything we had was wonderful, from [shredded potatoes with green pepper] to [the sour fish soup].

Please contribute to the coverage of restaurants and cities for fellow travelers and settlers.

Wow! You've been to Minneapolis, PJ? That's cool. That's my neck of the woods.

Tea House is good. I've been there a few times.

Uptown Minneapolis has a few good Thai restaurants and an exceptional sushi bar. I have had my share of late nights there having too much liquor, raiding the toilet to regurgitate the warm sake, and hitting on the fine waitresses.

Quang's (on Nicollet) is pretty good. IMO, Quang's is always busy and they serve a pretty good diverse population. They have a caramel chicken special that will tease and whoop your taste buds. Last time I went, we waited in line for about half an hour. We didn't even get our order in until another 30 minutes later, because they were super busy.

Village Wok is another decent place in MPLS. Their Five Spice Squid has got to be one of the best dishes they have. They specialize in seafood and they have all sorts.

I don't have one in my area. Last time I had a Teriyaki Beef Bowl was when I still lived in Los Angeles. I could go for one in a few hours. We don't have any Japanese restaurants in our area.
