Default Restaurant recommendation for various cities

Traveling somewhere and wondering where good food can be found? New in town and yet to learn about the fine eateries? This topic was created with the intention to solve these problems for travelers and new settlers alike.

Please recommend restaurants (or anywhere where food may be consumed) that you've been to which offered delicious food. Any type of food is welcome.

Here's a few to kick things off.

San Francisco: House of Nanking - simple-concept foods prepared with otherworldly deliciousness. Ever had pork chop or fried squid? Probably, but most don't taste this good. Mention to the server/owner that you'd like to try the authentic items, and be prepared to stand in line for the next available seat.

Minneapolis: Tea House - Fine Sichuan-style cuisine with their signature sensually numbing spicy flavor. Ate here on 2 occasions and everything we had was wonderful, from [shredded potatoes with green pepper] to [the sour fish soup].

Please contribute to the coverage of restaurants and cities for fellow travelers and settlers.

house of nanking? where is that? i never heard of that and i lived in SF my whole life.

anyways in SF, i'll recommend banana island. well it isnt really in SF, it is in daly city, but it is very close to SF. that place serves thai, indian and malaysian food. the place isnt cheap tho and the food are spicy (im not a spicy person), but overall, it will be a good experience cause the food are very good.

    San Francisco/Bay Area

House of Nanking is in Chinatown on Kearny Street between Jackson Street and Pacific Street. The restaurant attracts mostly white customers & tourists. Therefore, there is usually a line.

The only dish I like at Banana Island is the Indian bread/pancake with curry. The rest are just so-so. The portions are small. The prices are a little above the average, $10-$15 per dish.

Pizza Orgasmica - the best pizzeria in San Francisco. Fresh ingredients with the right amount of sauce on a thin, yet not too thin, crust. The prices are bit high. However, this is the cheapest Doggie Style™ you can get.

    Can we include bakery

Any Italian food, I would recommend The NOrth End in Boston.

I think Pizzeria Regina got well known for its over brick pizza.

for bakery, Mike's Pastry in North End's. Famous for cannoliis and Lobster tails ( not made from lobsters but made with sweet mascaprone cream). The store is famous and one of it's faithful client was Bill Clinton.

Olives owned by chef Todd English... damn pricey tho

    NYC- Dallas BBQ http://www.bbqnyc.com/
    also, Junior's - best cheesecake ever! http://www.juniorscheesecake.com/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junior's

a lot more resturants but im trying to see if i could find websites

& of course: Nathan's hotdogs at Coney Island! not really a resturant but its worthwhile; theyre tearing the amusement park down this year, so if anyone has the chance to go to NYC, go this year!

Sydney has this very good restaurant at Darling Harbour, I forgot the name but I remember it was next to the ice cream shop and near the shopping centre there. They serve the best lamb shanks I have ever tasted!

for a shorter line, i recommend modern pastry across the street. i prefer their cannolis and most pastries are only $2 each.

i'm not a fan of todd english or his restaurants. i think he uses his name and overcharges ppl for mediocre food. there are plenty of better restaurants in boston at cheaper prices.

aww, all are places unreachable to me.. So sad because I loooove food.

can someone recommend any good restaurants in KL, Malaysia or Adelaide, OZ? But then there's not many from there around here.. my chances of getting recommended are very slim...

I dined at Olives in Las Vegas (at Bellagio). Great food, high price, average service. Overall one of my better, if not the best, dining experiences in Las Vegas. Definitely more enjoyable than the various buffets.

The Brazilian restaurant is called Espetus Churrascaria. Never tried it before I rarely go over to that area, so don't know if it is good or not. In addition, I generally stay away from the all-you-can-eat restaurants because the quality of food is low.

I tried one in Houston called Fogo de Chao, which is a chain. www.fogodechao.com It was actually very very good, not at all like the artery-hardening experience I thought it would be. The meats were done perfectly, and it was very classy. Plus, they had an all-you-can-eat salad bar. But the price was steep. I seem to recall that after tax and tip, we paid about $80 per person, and there was no alcohol. I don't think I would go there again unless I was on company expense (which I was that time ), just because of the price.

has anybody ever seen the show on E! called The Soup? haha, this reminds me of what they say after they introduce the chat stew segment. "so meaty..."
