Are you sure that the strongest is Guo Jing? Many main characters are at least on par with him.

I wouldn't exactly say Wei Xiao Bao is the smartest too. I would think that Huang Rong would be the smartest, and if she is not counted as a main character, then probably Yang Guo. However, I did not read all the novels so I cannot say for sure that there aren't smarter characters in other novels. This is just my guess.

Are we talking about raw physical strength (without considering inner power)? That might be Kiu Fung, although it's hard to say for sure.

The strongest Jin Yong character (main or supporting) without considering inner power might be the Qing Dynasty official Obai. The guy was practically the Incredible Hulk and he didn't train in inner power; he was just freaking strong.

Neither are main, but I guess main isn't really specific either.

I think HYS>WYZ purely in my biased view that he broke his students before vice versa. Also all of his students still treat him with love and respect. We can't exactly prove that WYZ is better than HYS in other fields (bar martial arts), although that's the feeling I get. Both talents are best at many fields in their time. HYS appeared to have less opportunities while inventing his own, whereas it's the opposite for WYZ. We can assume WYZ>HYS in martial arts, a bit of deterioration in arts available, but surely other fields have improved from early Song to late Song.

I am of the opinion that perhaps Wuyazi is more "book smart." Yeah, he had one disciple which screwed him, but look at how loyal his other disciple is, and how loyal his disciple's disciples are! Su Xinghe's original 8 disciples loved him no less than Huang Yaoshi's disciples.

We don't know where Huang Yaoshi gained his knowledge do we? For all we know he could have picked up some secret manuals to read.

Su Xinghe and Doctor Xue's medical skills were way above anybody else in Wulin and Su still claimed to only have a fraction of what WYZ had. And that was just medical knowledge. WYZ was said to be equally skilled in chess (we can see proof of that in his chess test - where else in the JY world have we seen a inactive puzzle which can fire deviate its players), arts (his painting of little sister), sculpture (his statue of goddess), astrology, maths, astronomy, martial arts etc etc.
