Default Early on in ROCH, could Fok Do match/surpass Little Dragon Girl in hing gung?

Little Dragon Girl, as a martial artist, is best known for her hing gung. She never was a very powerful fighter, but her hing gung made her so quick and nimble that even Greats-level fighters had trouble with her (because she moved too fast for them to hit).

I don't know how it went down in the novel, but in ROCH '83 (TVB), Little Dragon Girl and Fok Do fought on several occassions. In each case, Fok Do was able to win because he was actually able to *outspeed* and *outquick* Little Dragon Girl. I didn't think anybody in ROCH was capable of doing that. Moreover (again in the series, not sure about the novel), the Golden Wheel Monk commented that whereas Dat Yee Ba was powerful, Fok Do was nimble and quick.

Was Fok Do really that quick? Could he actually "outquick" Little Dragon Girl early in the story?

Pure TVB nonsense. Huo Du never fought XLN; when he led troops to the Ancient Tomb, XLN sent them all fleeing by using her bees without ever even showing herself; the next time she saw Huo Du was at the Heroes Gathering. Here, once again, she did not fight Huo Du; Yang Guo did.

Even at that time, when XLN fought JLFW, her qinggong was enough so that JLFW, although far stronger than her in martial arts, couldn't manage to land a blow on her. There's no way in hell that Huo Du would out-speed her.

In the series, they gave these two characters three or four direct fan-to-hand confrontations. I'm not sure why, but TVB sure liked having Fok Do and Little Dragon Girl fight each other.

Now imagine what ROCH would have been had Fok Do was the one who deflowered XLN.

It would have made things easier for Yeung Gor and even the audience, actually. With Wan Tze Ping (or now Chan Tze Bing in ROCH Ed. 3), you had the baggage that during his LOCH appearances and before the rape in ROCH, Wan/Chan had been known as a generally good, noble guy. That's what made his crime so shocking. If Fok Do had been the culprit, it would have been more like, "Yeah, well...what do you expect? The guy is a scoundrel."

So the whole shock factor that made it compelling would have been greatly diminished. Obviously, a character getting raped is shocking in of itself regardless of whom the rapist is, but when the rapist is someone who had previously had a clean reputation, the whammy is doubled.

Things would have been interesting at the heroes' gathering.

Well that depends, YG didn't find out till book 3? I think, after XLN found out also nearing the end of the book. HD fighting YG may have happened with YG not knowing HD raped XLN.

I suspect it's because Kent Tong, the actor for Fok Do, was a really, really big star (until Barbara Yung's suicide--then his career went south), and TVB therefore probably felt his role needed enlargement. TVB actually invented a sizable number of scenes for him--besides all his mano-a-mano fight scenes with LDG, they invented his attempt to get past the bees in his bee suit, his fight with Wong Yung in the Ancient Tomb, his first meeting with Zhao Zhijing, his meeting with H7G, etc.

Still, why should they have Fok Do *beat* LDG? It isn't consistent or logical.

As if DGSD '81 didn't have enough of that?

At least in ROCH '83, we got a good dose of Kent Tong actually fighting after watching him ballet dance and point his way through DGSD '81. It was a welcome relief.
