Default Should the Hong Kong/China TV series THE BUND be made into an international movie?

In Asia, the story of the 1930s Shanghai gangster drama of THE BUND is legendary. Whether it's the original 1980 TVB series starring Chow Yun Fat, Ray Lui, and Angie Chiu, the 1990s movie starring Leslie Cheung and Andy Lau, or the new Chinese remake of the series starring Huang Xiao Ming, there's clearly a great amount of love for the classic characters Hui Mun Keung, Fung Ching Ching, Ding Lik, and their dramatic story set against the backdrop of 1930s Shanghai.

Chinese gangster movies have been hits in the West. Most famously, THE DEPARTED was successfully adapted from Hong Kong's INFERNAL AFFAIRS. If Hollywood decided to do a big-budget version of THE BUND for feature film, do you think it could be an international hit?

There's a recent documentary about that period of Shanghai's history [History Channel?] It was very interesting and explored the differing worlds of the foreign enclave as compared to the Chinese part of the city. The well-off foreigners regarded the corrupt Chinese portion as their after-hours playground. Some, including well known personalities, became opium addicts.
