    Default CONDOR HERO Shangguan Yun

Why is Shangguan Yun nicknamed the CONDOR HERO?

he is nick-named eagle hero, not condor hero. and it is maybe because he uses eagle claws martial arts. or it's just a nickname like bat in the sky or three headed dragon.

Eagle Hero sounds rather stupid to me. I prefer "CONDOR HERO" and it's more consistent with current translations (whether accurate or not).

If I recall correctly, it's because he has sharp insight and good judgement. I think that was a comment my namesake made about him.

well perhaps 'eagle hero' in chinese may sound cooler than it is if you say it in english.

just like 'eagle shooting heroes' compared to 'legend of the condor heroes'

Odd to even use Condor since that's a word used specifically for New World vultures.

While those are indeed attributes possessed by Shangguan, it didn't say those were the reasons that influenced his nickname. But they could be.

For the edited LOCH and ROCH translations the word 'eagle is used, not condor.
Back when the arguments about eagle vs condor got hot and heavy during the ROCH translation I did some digging regarding the Chinese names for the various raptors / vultures [which a condor is] and found a site that listed all the general group and species specific names. Here's a quote from it:

"As can be seen, 鵰 diāo is used for large eagles in general. (Mainland ornithologists use the non-standard simplification for diāo. The officially recognised simplification is 雕, a homophonous character meaning 'sculpt'). 鹰 yīng is used for the hawks (Accipiter). Sparrow hawks are officially known as 雀鹰 qu-yīng (literally 'sparrow hawk'). The buzzard eagles are known as 鵟鹰 kung -yīng (literally 'buzzard hawk'). 鹫 ji is used for the vultures."
