    Welcome to the forum Lisa.

My father was born in Russia (actually Ukraine but it was all USSR back then). I was raised on borscht, lol. Both sides of my family come from there, but they are of German ancestry - went to Russia when Catherine the Great was in power. I work with a girl from Kazakhstan too.

Russians are okay, kind of regular folks like everyone else. The only complaint I have about the Russians I've met is that they don't smile enough. My father says it's because there is nothing funny in Russia. I'd like to visit the village he grew up in someday. Moscow looks like an interesting city to visit...in the summer .

Russians are straightforward and honest people, maybe little aggressive.

Saint Petersburg would be nice place to visit. Russian winter is excessively cold. Summer tours are OK.

Got to like borscht when I stayed with a Ukrainian family in college. My favorite eastern European dish is cabbage rolls. Not the all rice ones but the ones containing ground beef and rice with tomato sauce. You can buy frozen ones in the supermarket but they're crap compared to those my mother made. Yummmm.

The only 2 things I know about Russians are....Maria Sharapova and Rasputin, the great! (Gotta love that song from Bony M)

So, can anyone tell if Resputin is pure evil or he is on the good side? I know very little of him from the Rasputin song and I'm still kind of lost after reading about him in Wikipedia.

The language of Russians, is it more towards Latin or is it much to Germanic influence? Is it a difficult language to adapt? In my opinion, it sounded rather close to german.

On the food wise, what's on that diner? Red Meat? Chicken? Pork? Tell me more!
