Default Question on Playing burned DVDs

for xmas, i wanted to send some friends who live in sweden copies of some chinese movie and serial dvds. err...i mean...back up copies...yeah. anyways, will they be playable in europe? will they have problems with the region? some of the originals are region 1 and some are no region. i'm guessing the no region ones shouldn't be a problem. others are burned dvds themselves.

the erm, 'back up copies' i make automatically decode the region, making them playable on all dvd players, but i'm not sure if yours has done the same.

How are you 'backing' up your dvds? Most commercial dvd authoring software will not remove the region code when you burn the 'back up' copy to dvd recordable disc. But thanks to some resourceful geeks (ie Dvd Jon), there are plenty of freeware that removes the region code. I use dvd shrink (http://www.dvdshrink.org/) to recode movie dvd to 4.7gb dvd disc as well as removing the region code.

Well since it's the giving season, you can always ship each them a DVD player too (or something that plays DVDs, like a PS3), just to be safe.
