I think he didn't really change until the last moments before death......
I feel his character play by Gallen Lo in the 94 version was ruthless....
What if Chor Lau Heung meets Wong Yung (LOCH 1982)?
Find it out in my latest fanfiction here:

This! I remember someone said that he actually left the Jins to join the Songs, but then he was bullied. But in the series I have been watching (59 eps total), YK only went to the Niu Village dressed as a poor man. Then, some Jins bullied him when he claimed he was the Young Prince (still wearing the tattered clothes).
Or is there another episode where YK actually did live in seclusion with Nianci where the people bullied him? If so, that part must have been cut from the 59 eps then...
I read somewhere in this forum that the poster didn't really care about YK/MNC until he saw Michael's and Sharon's version. Michael's Yang Kang was truly multifaceted, it's so difficult to truly hate him.
however, that version is still ruthless. Hence, I am scared to know how ruthless the 94 version was...
LOCH '82 did a lot of favors for the Yeung Hong character...fleshed him out into a three-dimensional, fully-realized character with whom the audience could sympathize, even as it denounced his evil actions. To hear readers of the original LOCH novel tell it, the canonical version of YH was a much flatter character: a one-dimensional bad boy with no redeeming or sympathetic qualities whatsoever.
I kinda see where this came from. I read several first chapters of the novel last week, up to ch 7 where Yeung Hong appeared in a contest. He kept fighting with Kwok Ching despite Mrs Yeung telling him to stop fighting. In the 82 TVB, YH still listened to his mother's advice, tho he later would also sneak out doing bad things.
I just finished the series. I like it... but I do have some quibbles about it. Will write later on my blogpost.
Also, I then learned that the 2008 LOCH (with Yuan Hong as Yang Kang and Liu Shishi as Mu Nianci) actually portrayed YK in a much better light than even the 1982 version... and they even made YK meeting his newborn son months before he died.

Anyone has an opinion on this? I'm not going to watch 2008 LOCH, no time. Too much time already spent on the 1982 version. But I just want to know... I suppose, it's a relieve to see a less evil version of YK, cos I now I've learned that the novel version was such an evil being... I have stopped reading the novel because of that.
I posted summary of eps 40-49 below:

One more post to, well, post for eps 50-59, tho I've finished watching the series and still try to overcome my sadness over YK's death (tho he deserved his fate...).
I posted the final 10 eps of LOCH 1982 here:
http://becomingicha.blogspot.com.au/...50-59-and.html
and also posted some screen caps of Yang Kang's demise here:

and thus endth my viewing of LOCH 1982...
Apologies for cross-posting.
To accommodate the growing wuxia/jianghu posts I have on my personal blog, I have published a new blogspot specifically for that topic. This blog is specifically for wuxia, jianghu or wulin posts, in particular those featuring Michael Miu Kiu Wai and Barbara Yung Mei Ling.

Just out of curiosity since I really do not remember the ending, what happens to the princess that was Felix's childhood friend but later realize that Felix's character didn't love her. I always felt bad for her character.
Poor girl, that one. In the 1982 ver, she just left Guo Jing and the Mongols after she tipped him about Genghis Khan's plan to attack Xiangyang. I think that also happened in the novel; she became a recluse. But I haven't finished reading the book...Basically Huazheng felt guilty because GJ's mum died due to her father's cruelty. That's why she tipped GJ about the attack.
What if Yeung Hong managed to escape death... at least until Yeung Gor was born? This fanfic below was inspired by the 2008 LOCH which gave YK the chance to be with his son and wife for a few months... and born of my wish of Yeung Hong having a closure with Wong Yung...

I thought Huazheng felt guilty because she was the one who tipped Genghis off about Guo Jing and Li Ping wanting to leave the camp. She had no idea that they were leaving for such an important reason, and thought that her father might be able to persuade them to stay - in the end she ended up causing Li Ping's death.
Ah yes, you're right. She told Dad that GJ and Li Ping were leaving, hence Genghis Khan captured them, which ended up in Li Ping's death. It was sad, that one episode...
