Default What matters more to you - Good Service or Good Food?

In general, it appears that good customer service is not a valued standard in most Asian restaurants. Nothing is more irritating to me than servers treating you like crap and makes you think that you're at the mercy of their service.

I’ve never had a good customer service experience in any of the local Asian restaurants or places that I have visited abroad. Thus, which matters most to you? If a restaurant offers great food but lousy service, would you still return?

It's all in the food for me. If a restaurant serves lousy food, I won't go back no matter how good the service is.

Good food on the other hand...who cares about the service? I'll even get it from the kitchen myself and bus my own table if it's that good.

Good food of course. I go out to eat - not for fake smiles

I usually give the place three chances. I don't care how good the food is, if each time the service is lousy, then I just can't bring myself to go back and contribute to their pocket. I think both factors are essential when it comes to making long lasting impressions and retaining customer's loyalty.

So you wouldn't mind if the server approaches you with an attitude, rushing you to order when you have been waiting for him for 15 mins to take your order? All the while, the person never bothered to come and check up on you after delivering the foods and if you need something, you would have to search for his miserable hide? I suppose, friendliness and courtesy are too much to ask from these people.

Hehe, I do the same thing - three strikes before they're out. The cook or the server can be having a bad day, so I usually don't make a decision based on my first visit. But there have been restaurants where I haven't gone back after the first time because of truly horrible food.

Good food is more important, but if they ever piss me off, they undergo the privilege of having their name smeared by me to a large group of acquaintances.

If the service sucks = reduced or zero tips.

Good food and good price is everything I looking for, who care about the service. I would definitely come back if the food is good and the price is reasonable. I go to eat, not go for good service. If the food is bad, then no matter how good the service is I wouldn't come back. If you go to dim sum during weekend in a big city, then you have to wait like 30 minutes or more for the table and the service is lousy, but who care, the food is great. In general, asian people care about the taste and the price more about the service.

Food and price like TC. Often good service come at a high price.

    Minimal service is required however.

If it's an important dinner where I am shouting someone - good service is a requirement. If it's just a casual dinner with family/friends, price is more important.

I like to go to restaurants where you've to pay up front first or there are no waiters. That way I wouldn't have to tip.

A balance..you need a balance, unless it's fast food or take out, but even then, I can't deal w/ attitude problems. I'm not saying to treat me like god, but a bit of respect would be nice. I HATE absolutely HATEEEEEE Asian traitors who treat White people better than their own kind. Once we were in line, and these stupid Asian restaurant people see White people behind us and let them cut in line..wtf?!?!

But yeah, one key note, don't piss servers off BEFORE they serve your food..they're probably gonna spit in your food or do something to it. I always retain my anger until the end, where I leave little/no tip (depending on what they did to me) and give them death glares/give them half a mouthful.

I did show my anger at dim sum right away though, since it was pushing carts and I could see if they could sabotage it haha.

I wouldn't say Asian restaurants generally devalue customer service. For my experience, I receive poor customer services in 'western' restaurants...My friends and I were made to wait a long time for a table and no one checked on us after we were seated. The waiter didn't listen to us by serving us the wrong food. My friend is a vegetarian and can't have meat on her salad. When we asked the waiter to send us another, he just picked the meat off the salad in the kitchen and brought the same salad out.
Seems to me that checking on clients is a 'western' custom, and Asian restaurants only arbitrarily adopt this etiquette if they are receptive to 'western' custom, It's not customary for Asian waiters to check on their clients, so I wouldn't fret about it. Yet, I don't like when they treat me at their mercy. Wherever I go, the most important thing for me is good food and minimum service.

i've had one of my best customer service experiences at a chinese restaurant and my worst at an american restaurant.

the chinese restaurant was in cali and everything was so nice and fancy. hot towels, getting to check the fish before it got cooked, my soda served in a cut glass, etc.

and my worst was in a restaurant in boston. they lived about their valet service, the line was crazy long, nobody checked up on us, everything was incredibly slow. if it wasn't free, i'd have asked for my money back.

Good food is important, but off course, you can't disregard the service either. So it's 50/50 for me. I went to this restaurant in LA once, and the waitress served me the wrong food. Instead of apologizing, she argued with me that I AM the one who ordered it wrong No matter how good their food is, I vow never to go back there again!

i have both good and bad services at american or chinese restaurant. but for me, good food AND service is a must. i'm there to enjoy my food and a good sitting with my folks and friends.

but on a general term, the local chinese restaurant are usually very biased. they would greet the white folks like god, and blah to us asian. the same experience as well in florida.

and yes, i do give out anywhere between 20% to 45% tip for every service.

Simply put, good service effects good food. It happened to me one or two times where they either forget or take a long time in getting ME my dish. Good food can be found everywhere, its the good service that keeps people coming back.

    45%?! wow, high roller.

i usually get pretty good service in asian restaurants. hee hee, sometimes it helps to talk to them in their native language.

i remember going to a chinese restaurant inside the paris casino in las vegas (weird, i know), and they treated us so nice and gave us a bunch of freebies just bc some of us were asian.

pemberly, i think you should hang out with me some time since we're only about 35 mins apart. and i will drag lucky along (depending on her mood) just in case you're not comfortable.

and yeah to give high tip, it usually depends on the time, mood, money, food, and service. i try to be fair as much as i can unlike my buddies that only hand out good tips to hot waitress along with their cell numbers.
