Anyone here has any info on this movie, I heard that it just finished but I don't know when it will come out. Vicky Zhao, Chen Kun and Donnie Yen all star in that movie. The movie itself is based on one of the story from [COLOR=#000080]

Their role have yet reveal, but there lots of speculation in which Zhou Xun and Sun Li will pair up as piar of ghostly sister. While Chen Kun will be a scholar, and Vicki is Chen Kun's wife and Qi Yuwu as an eveil character.

'Skin' shooting gets underway

HONG KONG – Shooting has got underway on "Painted Skin," a big-budget thriller starring Donnie Yen and Zhou Xun ("The Banquet").

Pic is something of a rarity in China, a supernatural thriller, albeit one that is a remake of a 1965 Hong Kong movie of the same title. Story involves a vampire-like woman who eats the skins and hearts of her lovers.

"Skin" was unveiled in June (Variety, June 20, 2007), but since then budget has climbed from $10 million to $15 million and Gordon Chan has replaced co-helmers Wilson Yip Wai-shun and Andy Chin Wing-keung in the director's chair. Tung Wai takes the action choreography role.

Other cast include Chen Kun, Zhao Wei, Sun Li and Singapore's Qi Yu Wu.

Pic is set as a multinational co-production involving Ningxia Film Studio, Shanghai Film Group, Beijing Ding Long Da Media and Beijing Time Entertainment from China, MediaCorp Raintree Pictures from Singapore and Salon Films and Golden Sun Films from Hong Kong. Pic will be handled in int'l territories by Salon, best known as facilities and finance outfit (Variety, July 5, 2007.)

Lensing will continue till February and release is skedded for Christmas 2008.

Chen Kun & Zhou Xun? Now I'm really excited

I love the adaptation of this story in mainland's "Liao Zhai Zhi Yi" starring Zeng Li and Kong Wah. Zeng Li did a brilliant job as the vengeful but poignant Mei Sanniang and looked really beautiful. Kong Wah was excellent as her wicked husband as well. I hope Zhou Xun will do a good job since it sounds like she's acting as Mei Sanniang.

Donnie Yeun revealed that in this version of Painted Skin, his character as the scholar's brother will have a secret love affection for Zhao Wei, the scholar's wife.
I'm really excited to watch this movie because it seems like they made a lot of changes to the story. The movie will not centralize just on the scholar (Chen Kun) and the ghost spirit (Zhou Xun) but also the love story between the scholar's wife (Zhao Wei) and the scholar's brother (Donnie Yeun)--so there will actually be 4 main characters. Donnie revealed that in the movie he fell in love with his sister-in-law but since it's against tradition for him to confess his love, he can only love her secretly.
I really can't wait for them to release some pictures, it's really great that Zhao Wei, and Chen Kun to act in this movie since they mentioned so many times that they hope to have the opportunity to work together. It's also great to see Zhou Xun in this movie too since she's pretty close to Zhao Wei and Chen Kun.

I guess there is a change in Chen Kun's character. Although he is a scholar but in this pix he is wearing a general's armor, next to him is Zhao Wei.

Painted Skin is wrapping up on Feb 2 or so and the production is currently spending two weeks to shoot the finale. Sun Li's role, as well as more of the plot, has been revealed. She comes from a family of exorcists and it's her onus to get rid of the fox vixen Zhou Xun. However, she's a bumbling neophyte with mediocre skills and nobody believes a word when she says that there is a fox spirit for she lacks concrete evidence, even though she has a demon detector. Sun Li also provides comic relief. While she carries an arsenal of talismans and magical devices with her all the time, finding the right item at the right time to deal with demons is a challenge.

The plot appears to be slightly different from what was previously said. Sun Li's grandfather was killed by fox spirit Zhou Xun. And she has been tracking her down in order to seek revenge. She finds out that Zhou Xun has been bewitching general Chen Kun. While warrior Donnie Yen, who's been carrying a torch for Chen Kun's wife Vicky Zhao, doesn't believe in demons, he still helps Sun Li deal with Zhou Xun. Gradually, Sun Li develops feelings for Donnie Yen. However, they later make an even more shocking discovery...

Being a non-martial artist, Sun Li's in a whirl when it comes to action scenes. She's uncertain of how to execute the moves, and to connect the moves with the expression in her eyes and on her face. She's glad to have Donnie Yen guiding her, "He would help me design what kind of reaction I should have after finishing a move, my gestures in between two moves, and ensure that what I do won't get cut away by the director."

Donnie Yen says that his character in Painted Skin not only fights well, but he's given ample space relating to drama. He would ponder over how his character gesticulates, in order to better demonstrate his personality and status. He believes the audience would see a different Donnie Yen in this film.

Once, Donnie Yen had a close shave when filming a wirework scene in which he saves a damsel in distress on a rooftop at the height of 4m. Donnie Yen felt something was amiss and signalled to the director to ensure that everything was in order. Meanwhile, a stunt double went up to try it out for Donnie Yen. When he was mid-air, the wire snapped and he dropped onto the ground, missing the mattress, and broke his knee. It shocked everyone on the set and the stunt double was rushed to the hospital. Donnie Yen mumbled repeatedly, "Wirework is too risky. Too risky" The accident sends chills down his spine. He says that when doing wirework, one won't know when anything would happen. It's very scary. In the past few years, whenever he's the action director, he would try his best to avoid the use of wires in his pursuit of realism.
