    Default spcnet.tv redesigned!

We finally launched the redesign of spcnet.tv after months of working on it. The biggest change at the forums is obviously the site header to make it look more integrated with the rest of the site. We are currently still working on some sections to fix design issues, so thanks for your patience!

    Notable changes:
Articles section is now renamed "Opinion Columns"

Please let us know of any errors. Thanks and hope everyone likes our new look!

Yes, it would be a problem if we can't post to tell you theres an error, wouldn't it.

But what's with the orangeness of the TV in SPCNET TV? To stand out? Or is this how you say wo ai ni to Levendis? LOL

The screen is more narrowed in this format.

The masthead, and the banner-ad that goes with it, take up 1/3 (horizontally) of my screen, and probably those of others who use 17-inch monitors.

Panic for a moment as I thought my bookmarks messed up..

The Tabs are rather chubby and take up quite a lot of space. I can understand the banner needing prominence since they're paying for space, but the tabs (and the gap between the tabs and the text below) could be narrower. Perhaps the logo could go to the right (or left) of the banner and save space at the top, and the search box could go somewhere else? It does take up a lot of space.

    It looks nice nevertheless!!

It does look nicer, but I'm not too crazy with the new design cuz now I can't sort the TV series by "year."

For me, I use Firefox's adfilter so I don't see the banners unless I use a different computer. But I'll have to agree the tabs could be made smaller or narrower.

That banner is WAY too big. Terrible, really. And now spcnet.tv feels like those "fake" sites with the tabs used. But I love the logo, I think it's done nicely. And the layout. Still, another change that should take place is the forums. It just didn't feel normal having old forums and a newer look.

Thanks for all the feedback so far. I admit that when I first saw the design mockups, I thought that the tabs were big too, but maybe after hours of looking at it while coding stuff on our dev site, I got used to it! Anyway, we may change that in the future, especially as more content is added to the site and we need the space.

In general, the tradeoff of integrating the forum to look more part of site was to make the forum width smaller, though it's actually still pretty wide (1000 px) by general web standards. A lot of people visit the forum and don't even realize there are other sections and vice versa for people who visit the site for reviews. I'd also like to redesign the vBulletin templates too since it doesn't match the rest of our site design, but that's another project. Agree with encoish on those sentiments. We really did concentrate most of the design efforts this time on the reviews section. It always sucks to have to figure out and edit third-party code that others wrote (in this case, vBulletin).

Most of the redesign changes were really made throughout the rest of the site, reviews sections especially, to improve usability and to integrate the different content we have on the website in a more interesting way. I think looking at the rest of the site, it is a definite improvement. Jilly, I also agree that the old format of having a list of reviews sorted by year was nice, I think I may add that back as one of the sort options!

    Thanks members for the comments!

I've already got used to the large tabs . And yeah, I'm a programmer, but I code applications, not websites or vBulletin. I HATE messing around with other people's code, first, I take pride in my own work, second, it can get confusing. People think differently, so naturally logic in code works in a similar way. Flipping through some past projects, I really don't know how most of my programs worked; they have some seriously messed up problems. Just looking at foreign code gives me headaches. Anyway, I've come to like the site layout nicely. I'm a fan of wuxia, and I really haven't gotten around to reading the review section. Guess I'm missing out on a large part. I've noticed the forums and the entire site have been shrunken, it gives a sense of simplicity, and although things are shrunken, they're uncluttered. In my opinion, the site redesign is very nice; I like. Although it isn't perfect, but there's always room to improve, right?

You could just use firefox... it has a spell check thing built in. At least for me... maybe I have a plugin?

Anyhow, I love the new look.

No, Google has spellcheck. I don't think spellcheck on the forum is necessary when Google already has it. It would be annoying if we did have it. At least with Google you can click on spellcheck when necessary, if it was on the forum, it would check it all the time and that is what I find annoying.

well, think of this as a way to improve your spelling.

Don't rely on the crutches and convenience of spellcheck to spell correctly. It's like the saying 'Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish, he eats everyday.' Or something like that. And by your age, you should be a good speller already.
