A wise teacher of mine once said that all animals (humans included) are programmed with two basic instincts:
1. Survive
2. Perpetuate the Species
"Survive" entails acquiring food and territory, and protecting oneself from the elements and from predators. The details will vary from species to species, but the general idea is always the same.
"Perpetuate the Species" entails acquiring a mate and passing on the DNA to ensure the species' future. Not every member of the species needs to do this, but it's better for the species if the vast majority of its members do (and is usually the case until the species approaches extinction).
Human beings might have attached all kinds of "meanings" to these activities, but we're still compelled by our animal instincts to carry them out. Our intellect is basically window dressing; strip it all away, and we're not different from other animal species.
Depending on how you take that information, it's either comforting or disturbing. I find it equal parts both.

Firstly, the title of this thread is completely misleading. There are also Asian good looking men voted by Western women as well. Unless they say all Asian men are ugly and list them all in ugly category then the title is valid.
Secondly, Jackie Chan is indeed ugly and so is his son ( Sorry Jackie if you happen to read this )
Thirdly, I think Jet Li was voted for good looking because of his cool-ness in his martial movie. And indeed one of my caucasian friend said she finds Jet Li so handsome in Hero.

Agree....
Acquiring a mate and passing on the DNA can be a good thing but also can be a very bad thing. I would say it is better for society if certain people don't have children than having children. For the people who have the financial mean and willing to spend the time to raise the children with all the good value, then it is good. It take lot of money, time, and effort to raise children. People should make sacrifices and put the priorities of their children above their, but too many people don't do it and for these people they should not have any children. However, in current society, there are too many people shouldn't have children that have too many and too many people do thing that they shouldn't do. The world will always have lot of problems that can easily prevent if people take responsibility seriously."Perpetuate the Species" entails acquiring a mate and passing on the DNA to ensure the species' future. Not every member of the species needs to do this, but it's better for the species if the vast majority of its members do (and is usually the case until the species approaches extinction).

Like he gives a sith. He was quite a playboy in his time. Lots of women had huge crushes on him. One Japanese female fan even committed suicide upon hearing about his marriage.
As for the side topic (getting laid), in my experience, folks who get all philosophical about it are always the ones not getting any.
"Anything you can't say NO to is your MASTER, and you are its SLAVE."
"I disapprove of what I say, but I will defend to the death my right to say it."
It doesn't really matter. If you asked the same byatches to rate Western actors, they would rate some as ugly and some as good looking too. Judging by the ugly a$$ stereotypical looking Asians who get on TV in the States, lots of Westerners still are damn racist.
PS, how many of those Western women do you figure are over 160 pounds and wear double chins at least? 75% conservatively?

it's just a survey......our term of beauty is just different from theirs, it's very subjective......so i think the sexy hunk Brad Pitt is ugly, so what? doesnt mean anything cuz everyone just think differently
No, I am not offended (as I stated when I wrote "It doesn't really matter"). I go on to say that there are different standards of beauty in the eyes of Westerners and Easterners - the reason why I mentioned ugly Asians (to me) being used for actors and models in the West. Secondly, those byatches doing the rating are probably uglier (in some people's eyes) than the men that they voted to be ugly, so why worry about what they think?
And yes, fat out of shape people are entitled to their opinions too. Dunno where you got it that I think they should shut up because they are fat and out of shape.

You're saying that those women are probably uglier than the subjects and therefore their opinions can be negated. My point is whether they're ugly are not is irrelevant. Whether it's coming from a beautiful hot chick or a fat mama, they're saying you're ugly. They may be uglier, but you're still ugly to their eyes.
Anyway, you are right about the different standards. People from different regions perceive differently, it's a cultural thing. It's like food, I may like a certain food because I grew up eating it, but another person who never saw the food might be repelled by it thhe first time the person sees it, let alone try it.
Survey results
THE UGLY GUYS
1. Li Yapeng ~ he's average
2. Wong Kar-wai ~ WHAT?!?! *angry for personal fan/idol reasons*...he's average though, not ugly
3. Ge You ~ average, I overlook his appearance because he's so damn funny
4. Jackie Chan ~ YES agreed, and horrible acting. He should just stick to martial arts period.
5. Nicholas Tse~ Don't like him, but he is above average.
THE GOOD-LOOKERS
1. Takeshi Kaneshiro ~ Oh yea, anyday.
2. Jet L ~ Yeah, he was good looking when he was young
3. Andy Lau ~ Yeah, when he was young
4. Liu Ye ~ Oh yea
5. Tony Leung Chiu-wai ~ I don't think he's all that great looking either....but women seem to swoon for him
why are they "byatches" for having an opinion? and why would you think they're overweight just because they happen to find a few specific asian men unattractive? i agree with canuck. going to personal attacks about the survey takers appearances just bc you disagree with their opinions is not only juvenile, it just doesn't make sense. not like they called YOU ugly. unless you're some big closet nic tse fan.

I wonder if the survey takers find Liu Huan hotter than Nicholas Tse.
Anyone who calls Ge You ugly is missing the point.

No I don't think that their opinions should be negated because they may be "uglier than their subjects." I wrote that we should not worry about what they think. The point I am trying to make is that most people will be viewed as "ugly" by others so that it doesn't matter what others think. I.e., many of these same women probably wouldn't be classified as beauties (as I would guess), and by extension, I would probably be viewed as ugly by many others too - I have readily said many times before that I am ugly. And, the peole who think I am ugly will have THEIR own detractors. Where does this end?
Again, I am not attacking these women for being ugly. I never even used the word "ugly" until you used it first. What I said was that most of them are probably overweight (which does not equate ugly), not exactly epitomes of beauty, themselves. And yet again, the reason why I mention their probable appearance is listed in the above paragraph.

but you're attacking the survey takers just because they have a different opinion than you. they happen to have different parameters for male beauty and automatically, they're fat "byatches?" there's no reason to assume that these women are overweight. and no reason to call them "byatches." why can't they be free to express their opinions without having people make fun of them? what kind of bias is that? just because someone stopped them on the street, showed them some pictures, and asked them who they think is the most and the least attractive, they MUST be 160lbs +?
