Default My Laptop CD player = DEAD?

Something is wrong with my laptop (or my dad's) CD player. Even though I insert a CD into the thing, when I go onto 'My Computer', and click on the icon, the laptop won't recognize the disk. All it says is: "Insert new disk". Somebody help me???? PLEASE!

Is the disc something you just burnt? Maybe a bad burn. Try another disc?

    CD player? Dvd Player?
Due to several complaints, I will stop using the terms "Babe" and "Baby" in reference to our female counterpart. They will now be replaced with "B*tch."

Is it external or internal? If its' external disconnect and reconnect again to establish connection. If its internal, go to Control Panel under devices, delete CD drive, restart Windows and it should auto detect new hardware. Otherwise, looks like you need to invest in a new drive
