Default Yideng - Has he reached the PEAK of PERFECTION in LMWSU?

What is LMWSU, you ask? In the finest of SPCNET traditions, LMWSU stands for 'Lateral Movement Without Standing Up.'

    Behold the below excerpt:

Hong Qigong was holding tight his bamboo stick to guard against Qiu Qianren lest he would launch a sudden attack from shame. This person’s martial art is nothing to be trifled with; in his desperation his attack must be really fierce. Not in a million years would he expect him to suddenly attempt to commit suicide. He was stunned, but suddenly a grey shadow flew by his side; Reverend Yideng had arrived at the cliff edge. Initially he was sitting cross-legged, and when he moved, he was still cross-legged. His left arm stretched out and grabbed Qiu Qianren’s feet, pulled him strongly back to safety.
Reverend Yideng, while seated cross-legged, managed to propel himself horizontally without enough speed so as to manage to catch Qiu Qianren and keep him from falling off the cliff! And, of course, he not only had to increase his speed while moving laterally without standing up, but he also had to be able to stop at a moment's notice and retract all of his energy to prevent himself from going off the cliff! AND, he had to be able to snatch Qiu Qianren and drag him back!

Clearly, Reverend Yideng has reached the PEAK of PERFECTION in LMWSU.

My question is this: Has any sort of similar feat been displayed by anyone else in any JY novel?

In the TVB adaptations, high-end fighters did it all the time. Not just lateral, but backwards, forwards, spin-in-place...you name it.

Right. But how about actual novels? This seems like a first!

Initially he was sitting cross-legged, and when he moved, he was still cross-legged.

The original text is slightly different:

    他本来盘膝而坐,这时仍然盘膝坐着

Initially he was sitting cross-legged; now [after his movement] he remains cross-legged.

It actually doesn't say that he didn't stand up to move. I see two possibilities:

    1. he sat, stood up, ran, and sat down again -- all in the blink of an eye.

    2. he sat, leaped up while remaining in cross-legged position, touched the ground, and grabbed Qiu Qianren.

    I am leaning towards #2.

Now, to answer your very important question: has anyone else performed an instance of LMWSU?

Not this exact feat, but there is someone else who has performed a slightly different act: DMWFM -- Diagnal Movement Without Feet Movement:

    也不见他移步抬脚,身子微晃,已站在台口。群雄见他露了这手轻功,心头都是一惊:“这人武功强得很啊,那是谁?”台下数千对 眼光,齐都集在他身上。

Ah-hah! A "p.o.p.i.t.w.l" (Peak of Perfection in Taking Words Literally) moment!

也不见 here means "not seen" by most people, i.e. he could have moved so fast that he was already where he was in the blink of an eye.
Doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't use his feet.

I think he probably just leaped/bounced up without moving his feet.

I feel the same thing happened to Yideng's lateral movement.

All this reminds me of the Disney animated movie 'Wind in the Willows' when Toad of Toad Hall is lusting after a 'motor car'
He bounces on his butt making car sounds!

I just had a humorous image of 1 Deng using this skill to give himself a little more room at a crowded sports stadium or cinema.

It all sounds very much like the movements found in Trancendental Meditation (TM).
