    Default Motivation to Study Tips?

i've had this thing i've needed to study for and take for the longest time, but I'm so not motivated to study at all. and time is now quickly running out. it's not that i don't have time to study, it's just that there are so many things i'd rather do...such as loiter, watch tv, go shopping, sleep, bother people, etc. -_- sigh, i'm such a bad student. how did i ever go through all those years of school?

i was thinking about just going to the library and sitting there for a few hours this weekend. then, hopefully, i'd have no choice but to finally stop procrastinating.

does anybody have any other helpful tips? i think one of the biggest factors is that i have no imminent deadline, so there's not so much pressure on me.

Well, you are not alone, Pemberly. I'm the next procrastinator....I don't know, I feel that I cannot sit still there and concentrate to study. I think its unable to concentrate, disorder in concentration..? I don't know.

It may help you if you spend some time in the library. I think besides concentration, you need discipline. Tell yourself not to think about anything else, stress yourself that exam or an important test is coming.

    Try hard

Oh you could also think of someone you admire, all concentrated in studying in library. Maybe your favourite person, a popstar or whatever....all engrossed in the books.... that, may motivate you to study

What can I say? I'm still standing! No weapon against me shall prosper! I am more than a conqueror!!!

I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?

I think we're all procrastinators except for HuangYuShi (he's too busy to waste time like us). I procrastinate so much, I could declare myself queen of the Procrastinator country.

Pem, Going to the library and forcing yourself to study, alone won't help you reach your goal. It would help if you know your objectives and have concrete goals to meet. Try thinking "I want to study it" instead of "I have to" or "I need to".

If there's no deadline then set yourself a deadline, and if you meet it, treat yourself to something you like. If not, you can go torture yourself for not getting things done again! mwahahahahha!

the library usually works... I'm not very good at studying... haha i can't help you much here. But the thing is... you have to motivate yourself to get into that library 1st.

You are not going to pass whatever test you going to take. Chances are you will procrastinate till the very last minute. 90% sure you're going to cram all that studying in the last 1-2 days.

    Now prove me wrong.
Due to several complaints, I will stop using the terms "Babe" and "Baby" in reference to our female counterpart. They will now be replaced with "B*tch."

Ogakira, you and your tough love. Pem, don't you feel the love here?

I don't know about Pem, but I'm not the one who would do anything, even when people provoke me. I have to be the one who decides to do things.

For every hour you delay and every hour you don't study hard, give some money to an organization/political party you hate.

Tag along w/ a geek; study on his schedule, which is most definitely more than yours.

One class I would go along w/ him and study for half days while he studied ALL DAY for final exam. In the end, I ended up w/ a higher mark than him.

Ahh.. we suffer from the same problem. I've been putting off taking the GMAT because I don't want to study for it! When you find the motivation to start studying, let me know so I can start as well.

Hehe. I'll definitely lose the best school one because I don't plan on leaving Houston. So how far along are you? I don't even have any study materials.

I think the thing that motivates me to study the most is considering the outcome of the studying. Often, the more studying I put in (not necessarily time wise) the higher grade I get.

Unfortunately, grades doesn't motivate me. Deadline motivates me. And there's no deadline for me to take that stupid test.

i'm the kind of person that disappears to the fiction section of the libary or the chinese wuxia section

for me, the motivation comes eventually in the 1-2 days before the exam. Prior to that, my study efficiency is close to 0%

Just set yourself goals. Aim higher than you'll feel more motivated. If you aim to just pass then you study enough to just pass.

Haha me too. I am still surprised at how much info one can cram in few days before.

Tips: (the irony is that I am trying to find motivation)
    - study group/buddy, follow other people's schedule and motivate each other (Crazy T)
    - study at a place where there are no distractions (yet to find one for myself)
    - good study environment (I have to delete my games, I suggest you ban yourself from this forum and get another mod to do it)
    - rewards for sitting there for 1 hr (food, distraction, visit this forum)
    - setting goals, read 40 pages in 1hr etc.
    - try to find joy in what you are learning
    - be stressed about the exam (GMAT is going to own you if you are still stalling)
    - have a whip to punish yourself for being naughty (never tried that one)

yep, that's the one i try...though sometimes i reward myself more often than i had planned.

another thing you can try is to convince yourself that you LOVE the subject

or sing the words to a tune you love

There is no convincing. Humans are creatures of habit. Unless you are strong willed, you'd have to condition yourself to studying. So Id suggest you get rid of all the distractions and get in the moood of studying.
