    Default Huashan Tournament, SPW style

Let's have 5 warriors from SPW compete in a Huashan Tournament. They are:

    -Dongfang Bubai
    -Ren Woxing
    -Linghu Chong
    -Xiang Wentian

with a special guest appearance by....
    -CONDOR HERO Shangguan Yun

They are at the EXACT level as when they fought in chapter 31.

One of the funny things about Pre-LOCH's Huashan Tournament is that it took 7 days to decide a winner.

Recall that at the end of the SPW fight, when Dongfang Bubai asked who was the best fighter, Ren Woxing hesitated for a brief moment, but then admitted that Dongfang Bubai was better. It didn't take him long.

Now, let's imagine that the winner of this SPW Huashan tournament will acquire the Ode to Gallantry art, which EVERYONE just desparately wants.

How long do you think it would take for Ren Woxing, Xiang Wentian et al to bow before Dongfang Bubai as losers? In other words, how long would it take to decide a winner?

I can't answer the question, but I do one to make this observation: I wonder why the Mt. Hua Sword Tournament tradition didn't continue after LOCH. At the end of ROCH, there was the perfect opportunity for a third such tournament, but all declined to take the initiative. I could see why there might be a hiatus during the 100 year period between ROCH and HSDS because Cheung 3 Fung dominated all (although he and Gwok Seung might have been good competition for each other before Gwok Seung died) during that century, and was too old to participate before Cheung Mo Gei emerged as a Great. There were plenty of elites in the SPW era, and with the Mt. Hua Sect having become prominent, it's surprising that nobody considered reviving the Mt. Hua Sword Tournament tradition.

It's good to keep in mind why the first Huashan Tournament happened.

There was a supreme prize for the winner, and everyone wanted a piece of it, for various reasons.

After 9 Yin, there was no more incentive to hold such a competition,.

    New manuals:

9 Yeung Jen Ging (HSDS era)

Qwai Fa Bo Deen (SPW era)

In any case, the original reason for the Mt. Hua Sword Tournament was pretty much irrelevant by the time of the second tournament: at the end of LOCH, the Greats and Gwok Jing weren't fighting for ownership of the 9 Yum Jen Ging anymore, they were fighting over bragging rights as # 1 Fighter.

Those manuals BELONGED to an organization, so they couldn't just be up for grabs like 9 Yin.
(unless people raid Shaolin and Sun Moon Cult)

Manuals come and go, but the # 1 title is timeless.

    They did talk about it.

They teased Zhou Botong about not being one of the top 5, to which Zhou basically said "that's fine, I don't care."

Then, they ALL cried in shame as they realized Zhou Botong was one level above them in terms of enlightenment.

And that's when they realized it doesn't really matter who is #1. It's just a title.

And yet, they spent the next twenty years preparing for another tournament, and at least two of the Greats coveted the 9 Yum Jen Ging with the goal of winning the second tournament...all at great personal cost.

Not much of a tournament when one fighter can dominate all of the rest simultaneously. Not even WCY can do that (TVB aside).

    Actually, I made a mistake.

What I wrote was pertaining to the end of ROCH, the would-be 3rd Huashan Tournament.

At the end of LOCH, when the 2nd tournament happened, I'm not sure what was the theme.

But if it is to be believed that Wang Chongyang > Pre-16 years Greats, then he was definitely about 3 times better than the Pre-LOCH Greats, which means he would have been able to kill them in less than 10 stances if he so wished.

Somehow, he just doesn't strike me as the killing kind.

Why three times in particular? In any case, even if he were 3 times as powerful, there's still four greats.

According to Zhou Botong in ROCH, the tournament was fought 1:1.

It's funny to think of the Greats lining up to take on Wong Chung Yeung (basically, lining up to get punked by Central Divinity).

Wouldn't the last guy in line have an advantage over the others, as he would get an exhausted Wong Chung Yeung? The first guy would be at a disadvantage in having to take on a fresh Wong Chung Yeung.

Presumably, they fought each other too.

So at the beginning, everyone would be fresh.

At the end, everyone would be tired.

    Here's why.

In the last 16 years of ROCH, the Greats made significant improvements to their skills. Both Yang Guo AND GWM were said to have refined their skills by an enormous fold, and they were only as good as the Post-16 years Greats.

Well, the first tournament happened about what, 50 to 60 years before the end of ROCH? From the first tournament to the end of LOCH, the Greats should about doubled their power. Then from the beginning of ROCH to end of ROCH, they should have doubled their power again.

So actually, Wang Chongyang should be about 4 times better than his opponents at the first tournament.

One of the reasons why some of us find it highly unplausible that WCY was at that level at the time of the original Huashan tournament.

I know that, this is beside the point. My original post is mentioning how DFBB could take on the rest of the participants by himself.
