I checked and I can't believe there's no thread on Stephen yet so I decided to make one. Last summer, when I was in China, I watched most of his movies that my cousins have collected over the years and they were GREAT. My favorite is probably 'The Flirting Scholar' and 'All for the Winner' but most of his movies are very funny and good.

Do you have any recommendations? There's still some of his films my cousin advised me to skip but I'd still like to watch them. My favorite ones are:

All For The Winner (God Of Gamblers) #1-3
    Fight Back To School #1-3
    Royal Tramp (DOMD) #1-2
    Flirting Scholar

His best comedies are the ones from the earlier 90's where he included a lot of making fun of Chinese puns and Cantonese humor. The later ones are wack. I think Shaolin Soccer, Kungfu Hustle, and CJ7 are just attempts for him to break into the industries of other countries.

I had no idea that his new movie is a sad one. Anyone has brief description of it?
I enjoyed Shaolin Soccer more than Kungfu.

Are you serious? I thought Stephen Chow was the main character in CJ7 since he was the director...eh...so the lead is the little kiddo?

he's the director but the lead is that little girlI heard in the future, he will focus only on the directing not acting anymore which is really sad. He is not that old, he just need to dye his hair black and cut it short

I know what you mean. Just look at Andy Lau and Tony Leung, they're just as old as him and yet they are still acting. This is so sad...

    I just finished watching CJ7.

The movie itself wasn't bad, but when I compared it with Chow's other comedies, it fared horribly. Chow had VERY limited screentime, and his jokes...there was none! I only laughed once or twice throughout the series.

Although this is a bad comedy, it was still a good watch. Little kids would probably like this.

Well, it was never intended to be a comedy but a family movie like "ET". And that's what it is. Nice family fluff. Except for the "Stephen-Falling" part.

I guess everybody expected a comedy and that's why everyone is disappointed. mr. chow should give himself more screentime next time around or his fans will fade away. he IS a great director but everybody wants to see HIM. The one thing he doesn't get right since KFH :-D

i thought dicky cheung was comedy king!

ps: CJ7 was horrible. stephen had a small role in the film and the film was just... not funny. i think the film tries to impress u more than it try to make u laugh.

my fav stephen chow film are shaolin soccer and ALL of his 90's films.

Guys, do you think that the little girl in CJ7 REALLY look like a boy?

I didn't know that she was a girl until I read it in Wikipedia!!!
