Default Playing IPOD video On PC

I found some video from newsgroup, but it is encoded as an IPOD video (means to be played through IPOD). When I try to play it in MPC/VLC etc, its feel heavy and seem stuck (frame-skip). Do I need to re-convert the video to a PC version, anybody know how?

    TIA

it might be your codec that's causing the frame skipping (or your PC is struggling to decode mp4). if you want to reconvert the ipod video, you need a program that can decode mp4 (h.264) and recode in avi, divx, xvid etc..
a free program i normally use for this purpose is AllToAvi (http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/)

Every media player needs codec libraries to play audio/video files. Codecs are the code framework that tells the media player how to decode/encode the file. In the case of VLC, it comes with its own open source codec libraries (see http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_Features_Formats).
k i was wrong. um for the OP, what kindda format does ipod play? i remember it's something like H.264? i think VLC does play that, but if it doesn't look for some sort of encoders or codec that can play it.
