Lydia Shum passed away this morning

Entertainer Lydia Shum passed away this morning in Queen Mary Hospital at 60-years-old. For many years Lydia has been suffering diabetes, high blood pressure, liver cancer, etc. Earlier on she received a bile duct operation.

Ho Sau Sun, who has worked with Lydia in the past described that it was hard to express his current feelings. "I can't seem to accept this at the moment... it's hard to explain my feelings."

    A well-known HK comedian.

Ex-wife of Adam Cheng (if you're familiar with him).

I think we need to merge these threads since they're both about Lydia Shum:

Sad to hear about her passing.

I just saw a recent pic of hers in a magazine. She didn't look well at all.

    RIP.

Recipe of the Heart (Mei Mee Tin Wong). I had no idea she was 60 or that she had liver cancer. I grew up watching her on Foon Lok Gum Siu.

I also remember watching her on those black and white movies (Yuet Yue Chaan Peen).

I believe that with Lydia Shum's passing, the last of TVB's original cast of actors (from its founding in 1967) has left the company. Unless Liza Wang was also there as early as 1967, nobody else who was there (in front of the cameras, at least; there might be some behind the scenes folks still working there) during the founding four decades ago is still with the company.

    RIP

I'm not from the older generations so I never got to watch her in any series. I see her sometimes in various shows. Recently I saw her in some newspaper and she looked awfully pale and skinny (as opposed to her plump self all her life). This is indeed a sad loss of a veteran entertainer.

    Again, RIP

That's mostly because despite Ms. Shum's long tenure with TVB, she's seldom performed as a series actress. She couldn't have made more than a handful of series appearances for TVB during the past forty years.

On the other hand, Ms. Shum emceed countless events for TVB from the late 1960s until she fell ill about two years ago. For years, she was the *only* constant on TVB's nightly variety show, ENJOY YOURSELF TONIGHT.

I grew up watching her movies and her hosting award shows and such. She'll be greatly missed.

K, so the ex-wife of Adam Cheng is 60 years old.

Is Adam Cheng also up there in age?

If Adam Cheng is 60 now in 2008, he would have been 47 in 1995.
So he was 47 years old when he played Chu Liuxiang in CLX 1995!
    Incredible feat!!
And I must say, 47 year old Adam Cheng >>>>>>>>>> 47 (give or take a few) year old Lawrence Ng as Zhang Wuji.

Any truth to the rumor that Adam Cheng is staying in China and not doing anything to help with funeral arrangements and what not?

It's so sad to hear that Fei Fei's gone.

I remember her for her comedies and leading TVB presenter...

    RIP.

That's definitely not the truth. The media is now rewriting 20 + years ago story to cook up the news, I guess they can't find anything else to write about Lydia Sum besides her achievements. They even guarded outside of Adam's house and harassed his wife for an interview. What does this have to do with his wife? She's not the cause of Lydia's death!!!

Adam is one of the main characters in the new series he's filming in China. Therefore, he has to film everyday from morning until night in order to finish all of his scenes before April so that he can get prepared for a concert in Singapore. His disappearance will cause a lot of inconvenience because they are now filming only Adam's scenes. Adam knows that and the whole crew also knows that. But they told him it's okay if he wants to take a leave or else people will label him 'heartless.' A reporter called the director and asked if Adam was saddened by Lydia's death. He said he saw Adam sending text messages and talking on the phone (in Cantonese) during the breaks. He believed that Adam was arranging his schedule to fly back.

Let's say Adam returns to HK, Lydia's family for sure won't let him help with the funeral arrangements because he's not a "family member." A lot of sources reported that Lydia's family didn't include Adam's name in the obituary. People with brains know that ex-es are no longer related (with the exceptions of their children). I believe Adam will return for her funeral, but it's a matter of time. She wished to be buried in Vancouver, so I'm not sure if Adam could make it there or not.

If Joyce had no other relatives, I bet Adam would be helping her with the funeral services. However, Joyce has many relatives, god-brothers, god-mothers, uncles, aunts who are helping her and they do not want Adam to be involved. Joyce totally understands this that's why she never blamed her father.

Here's a picture of the obituary:

Updates: TVBS has just reported that they visited Adam late at night after he finished filming and returning to the hotel yesterday. Adam said he and Joyce are currently still in touch and he's waiting for her news (about Lydia's funeral services). He might be able to attend the funeral but hasn't decided until he talks to the production company.

Probably due to the fact she restrained him from having contacts with Lydia and Joyce.

I love that series. She and Bobby are the leads. Louis wasn't that popular that time. Well, he was paired with Maggie, and Bobby with Esther
