Default Most satisfying cases of fulfilled revenge in wuxia.

Revenge is a constant pursuit of many characters in wuxia fiction. It seems like most characters are looking to get back at somebody for something at some point or another. Of all the various revenge plots in wuxia, which one had the most satisfying ending?

Did any of them have a good turnout? In most cases the person doing the revenge either ends up miserably or regrets doing it.

Technically Guo Jing was on a revenge quest, and he had a good ending.

Sword and Exquisiteness, main character is looking to unravel the mystery behind his father's murder and eventually becomes wulin Chancellor, most powerful guy (outside of Dongguo), gets a face lift into the most handsome guy in the world, and marries 3 wives!

    Not much better than that.

Of course, he didn't have much time to savor his revenge upon Yeun Nan Hung Lit before he came to realize that his quest for revenge had cost *many* innocent lives. He began to question whether his personal vengeance had been worth all the lives lost. I thought this was a watershed moment in the maturation of the Gwok Jing character.

I wonder if he would have realized that fact if all the other misfortunes didn't happen. At the time, his masters had recently been killed, his mother died, and he thought Huang Rong also died.

Before his mother and Huang Rong died, he saw countless people massacred in the battlefield due to his leadership, but I don't remember him being too emotional.

It really takes a traumatic event to happen on the personal level before people can see the greater scope of things, it seems.

    Yes, it seems so.

Since Genghis Khan became the Great Khan, nobody had ever dared to defy
his order. This time Guo Jing bravely hampered his order to massacre the
city; he was really angry. With a loud shout he threw his long saber to
the ground; then sped his horse back to the city.

The other generals cast their angry looks toward Guo Jing; now that the
Great Khan was angry who knew who would be unlucky enough to bear the
brunt of his anger. They were also discontented, since as Samarkhand?s
defense was broken, they were hoping to plunder and kill to their
hearts? content for several days; but now their hopes were shattered.

Guo Jing knew the resentment of others, but he ignored them all, he rode
his little red horse slowly to a secluded place. Since the beginning of
the war, thousands upon thousands homes had been burnt to the ground,
corpses scattered everywhere, the snow covered plain was dyed red with
blood. He thought, ?War brings wretched disaster; bad as it is now. In
order for me to seek vengeance for my father I have commanded troops to
kill these many people. In order to rule the world, the Great Khan has
killed even more people. But for the officers, soldiers, and the common
people, what did they do to deserve the cruelest death; their bones
    abandoned in the wilderness??

The more he thought, the more restless his heart became, ?I destroyed a
city to avenge my father, actually killed these many people. In the end,
is it worth it?? He wandered around the wilderness on horseback, going
back and forth while painstakingly thinking deeply. It was dark when
finally decided to go back to his camp.

Even as he was asking Genghis to spare the Samarkandians, he was aware he was throwing away his future with Huang Rong. Immediately after Genghis gave the order to stop, Guo Jing wandered off in thought and came to the conclusion that his revenge wasn't worth what it had cost the people of Samarkand. At the time, Huang Rong was waiting for the news that Guo Jing had asked Genghis to annull his betrothal to Huazheng. When Guo Jing eventually returned to camp, he was met by the just-arrived Qiu Chuji, and when he exited that, he was met by Huazheng. Huang Rong saw that the betrothal was obviously not annulled, didn't wait for an explanation, and disappeared.

Back to the thread subject. I'm sure Ren Woxing was pretty satisfied when he avenged himself on Dongfang Bubai.

Legend of Sibling (Tony Leung and Hugo Ng version).
When Little Fish and Flawless Flower kill Kong Kum in the end of the serial, it makes you feel good.

As brutal as it was, Madame Ma's grisly demise at Ah Chi's hands was...oddly satisfying.

Yu Canghai getting revenge for his master with the massacre of the Lin family, with the son driven to the point of castrating himself.
If I were to leave revenge to my successor. That's how I'd want it done, just for beating me in a duel.

If you lose in a fair fight, there is nothing to revenge for. If you can't take a loss, then better don't fight at all.

This may be a lighter example, but for me, it's Duan Zhengchun.

Notorious playboy and a natural flirt he may be, but he dies without any male heirs, leaving behind only beautiful daughters who either ends up dead or consorts to the bastard he had unknowingly raised for over twenty years. This bastard is incidentally the product of an affair between his most intense rival and his beloved wife, the only woman with whom he had followed through and actually married.

I don't actually care that much about Duan Zhengchun or the lifestyle he's led or the women he's seduced with honeyed words and lies, but man, if this isn't a perfect example of karma!

Most satisfying case of fulfilled revenge must be Gu Hanxiang avenging her husband in Wolong Sheng's 天香飆 (Beautiful Whirlwind). It's kind of like wuxia-Count of Monte Cristo. She starts out as the wife of a reformed bad guy and ends up the most powerful pugilist ever, defeats the top Wudang fighter with one palm strike (Wudang and Shaolin are the antagonists in this novel). Along the way she uses her beauty (she's probably also the most beautiful in all of wuxia) to manipulate her foes.
