Hehehe…IMO, LA's Chinatown is one of the most ghettoes and dirtiest that I've come across, thus far.

LOL, I had the exact same opinion about Las Vegas's Chinatown. It's a frickin shopping complex! After I went to some of those 菜场 things in China I kind of became immune to the lack of cleanliness, so I definitely depend on Chinatown to stock up on Pocky, Hi-Chews, Asian junk food, etc. And where else can I see roast duck and pig hanging in front of windows?

The best Chinatown belongs to TORONTO of course! Well, at least the Dundas/Spadina one...I have no idea about the other Chinatowns. When I go out to eat, I don't particularly like getting Chinese, but compared to the other Chinatowns I would say Toronto's restaurants are relatively good. They also have nice bubble tea and pastry shops. And good mangoes. I love mangoes.

it's like chinatown for white ppl. T_T i'm used to the gritty chinatowns with old ppl at dim sum and doing grocery shopping and hk-ish food. the dc one was .... clean and 80% white ppl and all restaurants. i peered into one and the waiters were hispanic. -_- there's an abercrombie or something in the middle of it.

Vancouver's chinatown is pretty good...but then again...it should be since so much HK people have moved into Vancouver/Richmond

    Seattle's Chinatown sucks...sucks BADLY

SF's Chinatown is cool...nice and big and lots of shops. Oakland's is tiny in comparison but still MUCH better than Seattle's.

The best China town is TO. It's was amazingly huge and I felt like it was Asia with all asian people, stores, and restaurants.

I remember one time it was very late and after a night of boozing everybody was hungry so we went to chinatown to get something to eat. Surprisingly enough we found a pho shop that's open late. The bowls were HUGE I think that was the first time I've never finished a bowl of pho, cuz I ordered the xlarge bowl that's like xxx large....Ahahha

Well Melbourne's Chinatown is umm, just a narrow street. It's appalling.

I would like to visit Vancouver's Chinatown though.

SF's old Chinatown is very famous and big, but today it exists mainly for historical and tourism purposes. I believe most of the good restaurants are now located in the new Chinatown, situated closer to the residential area.

I like New York's Chinatown best, mostly because Canal Street sells so many fakes LOL. Also nearby I can find Little Italy, SoHo, TriBeCa, etc. The Flushing one is all right but I mostly like the one in Manhattan.

    Second best is Toronto.

    I've been to two.

One in Boston and one in New York.

The New York Chinatown is HUGE. It's my favorite, but whenever I go there I always get lost and end up walking around the same place like 6 times...everything looks the same.

The Chinatown in Boston is...ehh....it's pretty bad compared to the one in NYC.

I've really only been to the one in SF so I can't compare. But any Chinatown that doesn't have all the squabbling in the markets is not a real one.

There's a china town here in hawaii, it's the only china town.

There's a lot of mixed stores here though, like there's chinese, viets, filipinos, and thai... i saw some cambodian it's wierd. but it's still considered China Town. && There's lots of Hobo's.

There's a small Chinatown here in Portland. Unfortunately the neighborhood next to it has become the area where all the homeless shelters are located, so it's a bit rundown and seedy now. It seems to be mostly made up of restaurants and curio shops, though we have got a lovely Chinese garden as well.

    Sounds like the typical Chinatown

Of all I've been to I got to say the San Francisco Chinatown is handdown the best. Maybe it's because it's the one I go to the most.
Maybe it's because all the hills make it seem grander than it is. But it's the one that just feels most like China town to me. It's bustling and busy, with shops and restaurants everywhere you turn.

Los Angeles' Chinatown come in second. It's dirty and rundown, just the way it's supposed to be. And the large plazas there are nice. (San Gabriel and Monterrey Park are too Chinese stripmall to be what I call China town)

I like New York's Chinatown. The only time I was there it was during Chinese New Year's...there's a lot more small alleis and stuff than I expected...actually Big Trouble in Little China had more of a NYC Chinatown vibe than a San Franscisco one.

Oakland's Chinatown I think is okay, but overshadowed by it's bigger better neighbor. Still it's closer for me than SF, so I go there sometimes.

Portland's, I got to agree is kind of crappy. Then again, not to offend anyone, but Portland itself is kind of crappy. There wasn't anything there. I swwear I've seen more shops and restaurant in a single strip mall than all of Portland Chinatown.

I had heard many good things about Vancouver's Chinatown. I gotta say I was a little dissapointed. There was really only one big street with a few shops open. For the most part it felt onely and abandoned...just like Portland's.

Seattle's I've only seen at night. It seemed pretty small to me, and the restaurants there seeme dto close really early. I was there around 8PM and most everything was closed already. Only found one restaurant still open, and it wasn't very good.

London's felts alot like New Yorks. Very alley like and Chinesey...lot's of restaurants, not that many shops though it seemed.

The Chinatown in my previous city, Calgary, has existed for nearly a 100 years down by the Bow River on Center Street. In the 50s and 60s it consisted of many small shops, some pretty grungy restaurants frequented the Chinese and two upscale restaurants, Linda Mae’s and the Silver Dragon [I wonder how many Silver Dragon restaurants there are in the world?] For more than a decade now the local Chinese have been redeveloping it so that there is a mix of the old small shops and restaurants along with many new business buildings, an indoor mall, the Chinese style Chinese Cultural Center, as well as the latest reincarnation of the Silver Dragon.

Outside of the downtown area there must be nearly 100 Asian restaurants spread throughout the city. The Chinatown here in Lethbridge is very rundown and is slowly fading away. There are still Chinese here, but they are outnumbered by the Japanese and Vietnamese.
