Default New Shui Hu / Water Margin

Director Wu Zi Niu (Zhen Guan Chang Ge, Tian Xia/Ming Dynasty, Tian Xia Liang Cang, Han Xue Bao Ma, etc.) is remaking Water Margin. The only confirmed cast member so far is Mr. Wu's favorite, Nie Yuan, who will be playing Lin Chong. The other roles will supposedly be selected via nationwide auditions, although Mr. Wu has said he wants a young Song Jiang and has his eye on Deng Chao for the part.

Seriously? This is such a popular story, even as a child of 4 yrs I was already exposed to the story. 108 heroes of liang shan, you've never heard of it? The plot is basically about different individuals who did something or another that went against the government so they came together and formed the 108 heroes of liang shan to rebel against the corrupt government. One of the more popular subplot here is "Kim Binh Mai" with Vo Tong and Phan Kim Lien. TVB's Gentle Reflections was a spin off of that story.

I would also like to point out that tvb's "shades of truth" starring Julian Chueng, Wong Hei, Gigi Lai, and Tavia Yeung made references to "Water Margin" in their past lives.
How come most 江湖 (jiānghú) wanderers never worry about money? I wonder how a 大俠 (dàxiá) make a living...does meddling in people's business and righting wrongs pay well?

I heard about this late last year. I think Huang Xiaoming wanted to play Lin Chong at first, but he wasn't the most suited for the role, so most likely he'd play some other hero of the Water Margin.

I think some people said Li Zonghan might be playing Shen Xing Tai Bao, the hero with the best qinggong.

Zhang Di is the second confirmed cast member in the new Shui Hu; he'll be playing Lang Zi Yan Qing. Weirdly enough, he was one of the Jia Bao Yu contestants in the new Hong Lou Meng casting contest.

Huang Xiao Minh was nominated for Lang Zi Yan Qing, but the director didn't find him very suitable for the character. Ultimately they chose Zhang Di for this role.
His image in New Hong Lou Meng. Looks ugly!

Apparently Zhang Di has been working out and has lost weight. Here's a recent pic of him with Nie Yuan:

Interesting. As much as I like Nie Yuan, I must say Huang Xiao Ming would make a better Lin Chong. I think Nie Yuan is a little petite to play the role. Lin Chong is supposed to be a bigger guy.
