    Default Instrumental break

Some like music so much that they aren't content to listen to it, but are compelled to find the models of musical instruments of their musical heroes in an attempt to re-create the sounds made by the master musicians. In this thread, we will share our instrumental lusts.

Were money not an object, I'd buy as many of these instruments as I could:

John Lennon's Rickenbacker 325 electric guitar:

George Harrison's Gretsch Country Gentleman electric guitar:

    George Harrison's Rickenbacker 360/12 twelve-string electric guitar:

Paul McCartney's Hofner electric bass guitar:

Epiphone Casino electric guitar (Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison each owned one of these):

George Harrison's Rosewood Fender Telecaster electric guitar (used on LET IT BE album and documentary film):

Paul McCartney's Rickenbacker 4001 electric bass guitar:

Ah, when you mentioned Instrumental, I thought you were talking about Instrumental music like New age music.

Ken, Do you play any instruments?

I play guitar, although I own none of the guitars pictured above (because of their associations with the Beatles, these guitars are all collectors items worth many thousands of dollars each). I own a cheap, but good-sounding acoustic guitar (nylon strings) that was probably made by an artisan in Mexico. I also own a generic Fender Stratocaster electric guitar (black and white in color like Eric Clapton's famous "Blackie").

Drum kits are noisy, and they aren't nearly as much fun to play by oneself without a band, but here is Ringo Starr's classic Ludwig drumkit from the Beatles era. I'd get a set if I could afford to:

For that authentic classic rock sound, one also needs electric keyboards, and rockers of the 1960s preferred the Vox Continental:

I don't seek it out, but if it's playing, I don't feel an overwhelming urge to leave the room.

I don't like current Asian pop, but I have a weakness for the HK pop of the 1970s and 1980s that I grew up with. Sam Hui is a favorite of mine because he is rooted in rock 'n roll. Also, Joseph Koo Ga Fai's scores for TVB's 1970s and 1980s soundtracks are always great.

He's a composer. He composed pretty much ALL the TVB soundtracks of the 1970s and 1980s.

He's quite old now. I imagine he must be at least eighty by now.

Koo's orchestra during the 1970s and 1980s was great. Very well trained, experienced musicians that worked with him for years. The Joseph Koo Orchestra was probably among the first body of musicians to successfully integrate traditional Chinese and Western instruments to synthesize a unique style of music.

Let's post pictures of sexy guitars.
I personally dream about Gibson's ES-175 series. But let's not forget the epitome of rock music.

I don't play guitar and I don't know much about it, but I wouldn't mind owning a VOX Phantom, a rather weird looking guitar.

One instrument I might be able to play is the melodica.

My obsessions: Joy Division, New Order, Bones, The Office.

The late Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones used a guitar that looked kind of like that during the 1960s. I believe that Vox also made another similarly shaped guitar that played organ sounds.

Couple of more stray Beatles instruments:

George Harrison's psychedelic Fender Stratocaster, which he painted himself and named "Rocky"

George Harrison's Gibson Les Paul, a gift from friend Eric Clapton:
