Default Comparing Jin Yong's Qing-dynasty era stories

Jin Yong has probably wrote more Qing-dynasty era stories than any other era.

But we here at SPCNet dislike discussing these stories.

    Why?

Because we complain that the martial arts in those stories are crap (which they probably are).

But, setting the martial arts element aside, how does the stories of each of these books fare with each other? What about with the top 5?

Jin Yong Qing-dynasty era stories are listed below in chronological order:

    Duke Of Mount Deer
    The Book And Sword
Other Stories Of The Flying Fox
    Flying Fox Of Snowy Mountain
    A Deadly Secret
    &
White Horse Riding The West Wind
    Lovers' Sabre

Personally, I would love to discuss Jin Yong's Qing dynasty stories more.
However I can't talk to myself all the time
Somebody else need to join the discussions.

Because we complain that the martial arts in those stories are crap (which they probably are).
Although the majority of martial arts aren't up to par with the previous eras, there are nevertheless traces of great feats within the Qing dynasty such as:

-Resurrect someone from the dead after they stopped breathing for 10 minutes

    -Freeze someone's blood

-Put a hole in the wall without sound

-Transmit voices to 5 ancient Chinese miles away

    -Melt gold

-Execute 36 stances in a flash

    -LDA

    -Jump 30+ feet high

    -Jump across the ocean

Isn't that Shi Potian? I always thought Ode To Gallantry to be a Ming-dynasty era story.

This is not a difficult task really. I recall watching a video about a boy who fell through ice once. He couldn't breathe for a WHOOPING 40 minutes but yet he lived.

    Good for him
In the Jin Yong universe, once somebody has stopped breathing,
he's a goner; you cannot resurrect him.
Even the medical gods like Divine Doctor Xue Muhua could not do that.
However there are 2 known exceptions:
The only persons who resurrected dead people in Jin Yong universe
are Ding Dian and the Sweeper Monk.

PJ, in terms of story, which of these Qing-era stories do you like most? And if your answer is DOMD, what is your second favorite?

I've only read 2 of them in-depth: A Deadly Secret and Sword Stained With Royal Blood. They are both highly enjoyable.

ADS - It is very well-written as one of JY's mature-period novels. Very exciting and vivid details. As a general trend, I find the diction in JY's later novels superior to the early novels.

I approached SSWRB with caution because it's JY's second book, and I wondered if the content would be a bit primitive. Yes, it is a little primitive at times, and the overall description is not as exciting as Jin Yong's best masterpieces. But I like the martial arts and the theme.

I read a little bit of Outer Story of the Flying Fox, but don't remember much. Martial arts-wise, the first few chapters are not exciting at all. At a later time, I did read some of the ending, and there is a nice showdown between Priest Wuchen and Hu Fei.

PJ, you have not read Duke Of Mount Deer? Although it is not as epic as Jin Yong's other novels, it is still one of JY's best works!

    It's on my list.
But then, so are 20 of Gu Long's novels
I can only deal with one at a time.

Hmm will Sword Stained with Royal Blood be considered Qing? I would've classified it as Late Ming...
