Post Who is the most perfect "Mr. Nice Guy" in Jin Yong novels?

Jin Yong novels are often littered with "Mr. Nice Guys" type of protagonists. They are the prototypes of a typical Jin Yong hero - nice, honest, kind, upholding justice, and more often than not advocating peace instead of fights (which is very hard considering fights, arguments, internal strifes and wars are common happenings in wuxia).

These are the most popular ones - Xuzhu, Duan Yu, Guo Jing, Zhang Wuji and Shi Potian. How about the other "Mr. Nice Guys" that are not mentioned here?

Who among them do you perceive to be the most perfect of all? Who in your eyes, in your opinion is the most perfect "Mr. Nice Guy"?

I don't think Cheung Mo Gei has a mean bone in his body.

He did beat the crap out of Ah 2 and Ah 3, but those bastards deserved it.

The problem with ZWJ is that he would never resort to violence or go into fights, unless the occasion or circumstances calls for it.

Sounds more like a virtue than a problem.

Out of the above, Shi Potian is the "nicest."

However if I were to pick the most "perfect" nice guy, it would be Yuan Chengzhi. His courtesy and respect of traditional value is second to none. He is not oblivious to the real world like Duan Yu and Shi Potian, and not slow like Guo Jing. Plus, he is not afraid to punish the evil. And, unlike Zhang Wuji, Xuzhu, Shi Potian, and Duan Yu, he overperforms instead of underperform in terms of martial arts.

That's why I feel sometimes he's a bit like an outsider in HSDS, he's way too kind to be involved in wulin matters.

On a side note, I think ZWJ would really suffer if we transport him into Gu Long's world.

Maybe not. Fa Mun Lau was perhaps equally good-hearted, and he got by all right.

Actually, he gave up something he never really wanted, but felt obliged to honor. Not really a HUGE sacrifice, in my opinion.

YCZ is more of a gentleman. real nice guys technically woudn't want to administer punishment, evil or not.

Well, you just ruined it somewhat for me, but I still think it was enough of a sacrifice for me. I mean Yang Guo probably did more in that sense but I don't think he was geniunely a nice guy.

    I still pick ZMJ.

Agree with Ying Ying here, nice guys would most often than not try to persuade the evil guy to turn good.

Punishments are often the last resort, especially physical ones, because they can't bear to see people suffer, even if that guy is the biggest baddie ever.

If that's the case, Hu Fei also qualifies. He respects traditional values, not afraid to punish the evil and overperforms in terms of martial arts too. In fact, he's very stubborn in adhering to traditional values, very eager to punish the evil, and able to defeat opponents that has better martial art and way more experience than him.

So, Hu Fei should be the most 'perfect' nice guy.

That could be true. I just don't know much about Hu Fei, yet.
