    Default Head Voice, Falsetto, Whistle

How to identify and differentiate between head voice, falsetto and whistle?

Look at this clip for example.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXM-Yr3upkk

The host said it's whistle, but in the comment section, some said that it's not whistle, it's head voice, another say it's falsetto.

Btw, why do people look down on falsetto? I read many comments on clips with people singing highnote. It's always "he's using falsetto", "she already use falsetto on the 3rd key" etc, saying it like falsetto is inferior. What's up with that?

    as far as I understand

men: head voice is still in normal range, falsetto is out of the normal range (higher)

women: no falsetto, just head voice, anything higher is whistle range.

I'm not sure if that's correct.

    Thanks for the info, warlock110.

So, do men have whistle range, or everything above normal is falsetto?

    Is this whistle or falsetto?

Btw, this guy's high notes is beautiful. Many people can sing high notes but not all sounds good.

I don't think there's a clear define, it's just phrases that people use to describes certain things. Like for example mariah carry (I spelled her name wrong), she sings a very large range of keys/octave, and they never mentioned her doing falsetto, they just call it whisper register.

Same thing with counter tenor, they're just baritone that sings in falsetto (that's slightly more solid than the regular falsetto)

here's another thing that might help describe what you're looking for:

"Although some accuse Vitas of being a castrato, this vocal range is easily within reach of the classically-trained countertenor or male sopranist. Similar to the "whistle register" of the female voice, the countertenor sings in what many describe as a highly developed falsetto register while the sopranist sings in his head register using a different technique."

I feel that Hins was just using falsetto on that one. In Blessing live, i think he had more headvoice there. o.O

Nobody beats Minnie when it comes to the whistle register...

I've never heard that falsetto was looked down on.
