Default Who is the most powerful character to have entirely created his own martial arts?

This would exclude people like Zhang 3 Fung since he created Taiji and Wudang arts with a foundation on 9 Yang. I'm trying to think of a an exception to the deterioation of martial arts in later eras, as someone who created entirely his own martial arts from scratch (preferably with a solitary life also) should be able to do it in any era. I'm not sure if Huang Yaoshi counts as I don't know if he had any outside influence, but he generally created and mastered his own arts by himself. He hadn't fought the other Greats for like 20 years after the first tournament and he still improved greatly. Same with OYF. I wonder if they would have reached anywhere close to their peak if they were born in the DOMD or Flying Fox era.

Dugu Qiubai if hes as good as I think he is...

But i also think all martial arts have some connections or similarities to others. Z3F;s Taiji was already described to be something very much original and yet you discount it... :O

It's impossible to 'create' something without any outside influence. There's intertextuality, everything is based off of something, no matter how remote.

well, creator of 9 Yin technically didn't have any "martial arts" influence. it was strictly derived from "taoist" scriptures--though it's arguable that taoist texts contain semi-martial arts knowledge.

Ah Qing - formless sword art, sword qi, and blur-level speed all before her twenties.

Yes, good point. The same thing applies to Zhang Sanfeng, since his 9 Yang was just a Buddhist scripture, and he only learned 1/3 of it.

The second half of 9 Ying was said to be heavily influenced from the Ming Cultists that he faced.

Didn't Zhou Botong create his Kong Ming (vacant fist) martial arts and the split-person fighting style(sorry forgot the real name)?

it was to "break" their stances. i think 9 yin would've done just fine w/o the "breaking" techniques though

If the 'Old Urchin' hadn't regarded martial arts as recreational and fun [remember him learning XLN's bee control], he might have become a great master and one of JY's most formidable fighters.

Dugu Qiubai and Wang Chongyang. I'm pretty sure they created their own martial arts from scratch.

Well, Quanzhen martial arts are based on Taoism theories and beliefs, WCY only practised Taoism after the "duel" with Lin Chaoying, so maybe Quanzhen martial arts was started by him from scratch.

As for Dugu, it's just a wild guess from me.

    .
But, he clearly had martial arts previous to becoming a taoist. He could've created new arts afterwards, but i highly doubt he discarded everything he knew previously.

    PJ,

I was hoping you'd be able to come up with a ELOC that had the description of something like "he had lived in the mountains since a young child and never had any contact with anyone, thus he was not familiar with society and its nuances, yet his martial arts was surprisingly strong..."

She didn't create it, the ape did. And there's still some debate over whether she can really attack through air.

How about Lam Chiu Ying and the Ancient Tomb martial arts? It does not feel like there was any deterioration in the stories, just not that many heirs.

Does this only involve martial arts because Wan Chun Ngau (Butterfly Valley Doctor) and his wife seemed to have self-taught medical skills?

Ummm.. how about Da Mo (from India and started Shaolin) even though he doesn't really show up in any of the JY stories? Didn't he create the Shaolin 72 arts including Diamond Shield (sorry forgot what's its called)?

I dont believe this is true. The only info given in the text was that she playfighted with the Grandpa White, the white ape since she was younger. Eventually, she outclassed the ape by a large margin. If the ape really did teach Ah Qing her martial arts, the disparity between them wouldn't have been that great and wouldn't have happened that quickly. It seems more likely that she created and developed her martial arts in the couse of all those years of sparring with Grandpa White.
