    Default FTP Login Problem

I'm having trouble logging into my FTP, and yes its been a while since I've logged in. I used username and password but its not giving access to my website.

I usually use the internet explorer browser to login to the FTP server but not working. Can anyone help me?

    what is the error message?
Try using a thick client FTP program like cuteftp, wiseftp. they're more verbose with error messages.

I've used the same username and password before and I know it isn't incorrect. I don't know why it won't let me login anymore.

Error 530 means the supplied username/password is incorrect. It can also mean the account doesn't exist or has been disabled.

Check your username and password for typo. Since you haven't logged on to the server for a long time, your account maybe disabled or removed. In this case, contact the host server admin.

How can it be disabled or removed when my website is still up and running?

if your account is still active..then it must be your username and/or password. Can't think of other root causes unless its server-related problem and if that is the case, other users will have the same login problem.

I talked with an IT guy from my office and he suggested it might be the Internet Explorer 7 is connected differently from IE6? Or something other in the computer?

Try using another browser and see what happens. Or try using ie6 and see how.

It probably ain't got anything to do with the browsers.

Exactly how long have you last logged in?

FTP does not seem to work with other browsers. I haven't logged in since May 2006 and I've contacted my server guy. It doesn't seem to be a server problem, must be on my end. When I had my old computer , I think it worked fine. But that shouldn't be the problem, I used the FTP with my new computer 2 yrs ago and it worked. But now when I have time to update the website, I find that I can't login and after I submit my username and password, the login msg keeps popping up, but not allowing me access to my FTP. I don't know what the heck is the problem.

I tried using IE6 at work (because my computer at home is IE7 now) and it still refuses to work.

did you try downloading a thick ftp client like www.smartftp.com and using the client to FTP?

also try connecting to a public FTP site and see if that works. If it works, then the root cause is not your browser or PC setup. If it doesn't work, try again with the thick client. If both doesn't work, then its your PC configuration (maybe firewall policy restricting FTP access?)
