Smile converting region 1 dvd player to region free player

Does anyone know how to convert a region 1 Sony DVP NS55P dvd player to region free? My cousin gave me his unwanted dvd series and those discs won't play on my Sony dvd player! Then, he told me I needed to convert my dvd player to a region free dvd player.

You don't convert a dvd player from region 1 to region free; you hack it. I believe Sony is one of the most difficult brands to unlock. You can only unlock it with a special device or disc, depending on the model.

DVD drives play both NTSC and PAL dvd formats, so you can watch it on your computer. If you want to watch it on television, then you would have to buy a region free dvd player.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, Ji Gong. I dug up my old dvd player and tried the discs on it. It worked, but the discs were old with some scratches and my old cyberhome dvd player (very cheap) kept pausing. Do you have a good region free dvd player to recommend that plays smoothly despite disc scratches?

DVD drives have stronger lasers that enable them to read disc scratches better than DVD players. Perhaps you could copy the scratched discs to your computer then burn them out on DVD-R discs.

As for a recommendation for a good DVD player, I don't have a clue.

So much trouble just to watch some old discs. Thanks very much, Ji Gong, for your help. I may try your suggestion, but the problem is that even my laptop won't play certain episodes from the discs. I found some sites selling region free dvd's online. But I wonder if those sites are reliable. There's one site selling a Sony DVP NS57P that's altered to be region free. My current Sony dvd player is very reliable; it even plays very scratched up discs.

Phillip is a great dvd player....i purchased two of them...lol....one with HD upscale...i hacked it.....now it's regions free ......no need to waste money on buying regions free dvd players...

here is the way to unlock to have region free:

    MAIN PROCEDURE

    1. Turn off NS55P, leave TV on.
    2. Using the original remote supplied with the NS55P, press these buttons in order: DISPLAY, TOP MENU, CLEAR, POWER.
    3. NS55P will turn on, displaying the secret menu on the tv screen.
    4. Select 2: Drive Manual Operation, then 4: Tray Aging Mode.
    5. The screen then shows two input lines: Input Count and Current Count. Use the code 00030 on the first line. Pressing zero first will take you back to the original menu, so instead of trying to type 0-0-0-3-0, try something like 1-0-0-0-3-0 so the 1 in the front disappears after the last zero is entered.
    6. Press ENTER on the remote. Disk tray will then open and close automatically 30 times. Let it do this until it finishes.
    7. Repeat steps 4-6, but instead of using 00030 in the Input Count, use 00000. Press ENTER, and the NS55P is now capable of reading all region dvds.

Your perseverance is so envious. I would have given up easily after the first try. What series are you trying to watch, anyway?

    Lolz.

I found on vcdhelp forum the steps you posted to hack the region code, but I didn't post it since I wasn't sure it would suffice.

I think Melanie has courage. Trying to tamper with a dvd player requires guts. Girls like her are cool.

Sorry, SkyKing. The series I am trying to watch is nothing as exciting as pornography. It's called The Good Old Days, an old ATV series with my favorite actor, Gilbert Lam. I had to go to a friend's house to watch the series because my dvd player won't work. I just want to be able to finish the series at a leisurely pace in the comfort of my own home.

Thanks, Ji Gong. You sure are easily impressed. I'm sure the world is filled with girls who tamper with dvd players. You just haven't been looking hard enough.

I don't have to look for them. They look for me. Thanks for the thread, Melanie.

Umm... Actually, I started this thread to look for help to hack...ahem...convert my dvd player, not to play matchmaker. But if the thread helps you find a nice girl who likes to tamper with dvd players, then all the better... I guess...

I think you misunderstood me. I am not teasing you for trying to fix your dvd player.

Oh! No offense taken. I can be so obtuse sometimes. I'm just glad there are people trying to help me here. Thanks again, Ji Gong. (But truly, I don't mind this turning into a matchmaking thread for you. It's for a good cause, right? Good luck with finding your dream hacker girl! )

You spoke like you think I have a *hot* for girls who like to hack things.

    I only like simple girls.
