I think so (it's been a long time since I watched the '86 series). In LSF III (1978), he wasn't embarrassed at all by the name although Yip Ling made fun of it as "feminine," and that's when he explained the etymology of his name.

Gu Long likes to use feminine sounding names for his male characters and he especially like the character 'Hua' (Fa in canto).
