That's beautiful! So you are from Hang Zhou Sparky? They say the girls there are pretty and gentle...

My parents went there last year and they say it's gorgeous! All the culture too! Can't get that serene Chinese poetic atmosphere anywhere else!

I must ask you for the best restaurants when I do go there! All the fresh water seafood! ~~ Long Jing Shrimpi I love you ~~

Skinny West Lake literally means Skinny West Lake
in other words, a skinnier version of West Lake.

Here's a hint (and for wuxia fans, one of lovely name of Huang Rong's dishes)

    青山隐隐水迢迢,
    秋尽江南草未凋;
    二十四桥明月夜,
    玉人何处教吹箫?

LOL well I don't believe in conformity, so I've a knack for defying stereotypes.

I never knew anything about Hangzhou girls existed until this one time in Beijing. I was buying a stuffed panda (my favourite animal ) when the vendor asked me where I'm from. I replied "Hangzhou," which wasn't totally lying since I was born there, but I just didn't want to get charged extra for being an overseas Chinese. He replied, "Ah, I see. Hangzhou produces pretty girls." I'm still confused as to whether he was insinuating anything.

Anyway that was my pointless/semi-amusing story of the day, but yes you should all visit. I'd recommend visiting in the spring when all the peach blossoms are in full bloom, and when the hot weather isn't as much of a hindrance. And if you do decide to go, I've so many recommendations for good food! (Yes, I'm totally trying to boost my hometown's tourism industry, but they do say 上有天堂,下有苏杭.)

BY THE WAY, has anyone ever been to Suzhou? I've always wanted to visit the other city called Paradise on Earth. The gardens look so picturesque.

Unfortunately I don't live there - it's actually the third most expensive city in China after Beijing and Shanghai, so I probably couldn't afford to. I was born there but I call myself a Canadian.

your photo is very nice. what name is that place in Hang Zhou??
They're all of West Lake [西湖]...the first two I can't remember specifically what part of the lake it is, but the third one is 花港观鱼 (literally translated something like 'viewing fish at flower garden'?? it's awkward, but basically there are a lot of fish in the lake).

Such a long post. *takes a breath* Back to work...btw this thread really makes me want to travel.

I hear Tai Hu (Lake Tai) has been too polluted these days for the Su scenery to live up to the name anymore.

West Lake's fate is much luckier. I heard they enforced the environmental precautions much earlier.

Post your pictures and we'll help tell you if he was insinuating anything or not.

I think the stereotype holds pretty true most of the time. =D

My friend's husband is from Hangzhou, so she's been there quite often. She told me that the girls there are gorgeous, but the guys are...*makes face*

Did she mean her own husband is ... "makes face"?

I guess so. Well, she did tell me she married him because he was a nice guy. Who also happen to be quite loaded. So it has nothing to do with looks.

now that I'm back from Vietnam, I can say that Halong Bay (下龙湾) is one of the 2 or 3 foremost breathtaking places I've ever visited (along with my opening nomination of Jiuzhai Gou). No photo I've seen can compare to the grandeur witnessed of Halong in person; this is one of the better ones:

    忽见柳荫下两个小孩子在哀哀痛哭,瞧模样正是武敦儒、武修文兄弟。郭芙大声叫道:「喂,你们在干甚麽?」武 修文回头见是郭芙,哭道:「我们在哭,你不见麽?」

That greatly reminds me of a scene in movie Avatar. Magnificent!
What can I say? I'm still standing! No weapon against me shall prosper! I am more than a conqueror!!!

I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?
