Default Du Monks did not know Zhang Sanfeng?

I was reading HSDS and stumbled upon this line.

So did the Du Monks not know of Z3F or is this evidence that ZWJ>Z3F?

Du generation monks have been in seclusion for 30+ years. They did not have any contact with the outside world. Therefore, it's likely that they did not know how powerful Zhang Sanfeng was, but it doesn't mean they never heard of his name.

But 30 years ago, that would've been around when Z3F made his name and dominating wulin.

Maybe another reason is that Du Monks thought Z3F might've died by then. But surely the Kong Generation Monks would've filled the Du Monks with information of present wulin, especially Wudang which rivaled Shaolin.

or perhaps the du monks have never personally fought/met ZSF and have no idea of his real powers. ZSF's relationship with shaolin was not exactly very chummy.

or perhaps, they were simply just giving praise to ZWJ. They're old monks. Maybe ZSF just slipped their minds at the moment.

Pre-30 years Zhang Sanfeng < Today's Zhang Wuji. Knowing that most jianghu men act on outdated information, most likely the Du generation monks were basing their statement on Pre-30 years Zhang Sanfeng.

Can the Du geezers' words be as reliable as the narrator's word? In a certain previous chapter I remember JY said that ZSF is unmatched under heaven.

    Interesting.

But I would still think that Kong Monks would talk about Z3F a lot as they seem to always inform Du Monks of happenings in wulin.

I guess seeing is believing, Du Monks don't want to suggest Z3F is as good as ZWJ without seeing Z3F, since ZWJ is already that awesome.

On another note, do you think Z3F would be able to impress the Du Monks as much as ZWJ? Although no weaker in fighting ability, Z3F's fighting style may seem less impressive than ZWJ's 9 Yang.

By the time the Du Monks went into seclusion, ZSF's name was already made.

I wonder if ZSF was head and shoulders above someone like Ming Cult's Yang Potian, who was probably the strongest fighter excluding Zhang. Yang Xiao with level 1 or 2 of Qian Kun 20 years later was already amongst the elites of the time, so I wonder how Yang Potian compared to his contemporaries when he learned up to level four 20 years ago, and no mention of any really powerful martial artists except He Zudao.

What is this business about Yang POtian? Did they change it from Yang Dingtian?

I would personally think Yang Dingtian was only slightly above one post-30 Du Monk.

It was stated that Zhang Wuji's level is much higher than Yang Dingtian's, and in the present time, only Zhang Wuji was a match for Zhang Sanfeng. So I reckon we can assume Zhang Sanfeng >> Yang Dingtian.

Well I meant back in the day ZSF versus him. The ZSF now of course would own him, but I'm wondering if it would have been close had they actually competed before he died. Then again I don't think ZSF was one to make leaps and bounds; he probably slowly got better and better every year, so a 60 year old ZSF was probably 80% or so of a 80 year old ZSF.

I still think Z3F would dominate YDT 30 years ago. Pre-30 years Z3F should already be something like 2 Du Monks.
