Default Surprisingly competent moments from generally incompetent wuxia characters?

Some wuxia characters stand out as hopelessly incompetent: Gwok Fu and the Mo Brothers come to mind, as does Sung Ching Sheu. How many examples can you think of, however, of instances wherein a generally incompetent wuxia character has a moment of surprising competence?

Not that I disagree, but that doesn't address the question at all.

Of course, that was more his own luck than an unexpected moment of competency.

Then again, maybe he really was better at chess than he thought he was...and at martial arts too.

What about the 6 peach fairies coherent talking at Songshan during the 5 sword schools merger that sarcastically poked fun at Zou Lengchan?

    Default Xuzhu's Greatest Hits

Xuzhu is generally regarded as an idiot, and in TLBB he's certainly portrayed as a hapless victim (beneficiary?) of increasingly bizarre fate, but he has his moments. He clearly has a good memory; he impresses Tianshan Tonglao - who probably knows him better than anyone else in the novel - with his ability to calculate, learn and debate; and he heals A'Zi's blindness after having "looked at medical books for half a day" (Chapter 49). In terms of pure intellect, he hardly compares to the likes of Yang Guo and Linghu Chong, but on the other hand he's probably no dumber than the average guy.

I thought RYY had a huge part to play in this. Or was this TVB alterations?

Another XZ moment was when he was being chased down by those 72 island 36 caves people. TSTL taught him how to use his internal energy and one flick of a soft cone buried it in a chaser's chest.

How about Guo Jing learning Chuen Jen internal? Or was Guo Jing's earlier 'incompetence' due to the 6 freaks and their teaching ability?

I would think that after reading a book five hundred, six hundred times, you won't just remember each and every word, you'll dream it too. Dedicated redundancy trumps lazy talent any day.

Unless the Xiaoyao medical techniques required massive internal to use (unlikely as Xue Muhua had crappy internal energy but was still considered the #1 in active wulin doctor), Xu Zhu actually was pretty incredibly talented in medical techniques. The author just didn't hype it up.
Its BIxie Jianfa Gawdammit you guys!!!!
