Before they were famous, before we recognized their particular sound, their beginning sounded quite different from what we are used to.

This was the post-punk Joy Division most of us know, moody, haunting and dark: Atmosphere. In the beginning, they were called Warsaw and their sound was pure raw punk rock: You're No Good For Me.

After the death of their lead singer, the remaining band members of Joy Division became New Order and the guitarist stepped up to the challenge to become their vocalist. They were famous for melting post-punk with electronic: Your Silent Face. Before finding their sound, they had tried out a couple singers outside of the band and one of them almost became part of the group: Haystack.

The father of Goth, The Cure had a gloomy image, but their music was often times textured edgy pop: A Forest. Like most British bands of the time in the late '70s, Easy Cure, their former name, were influenced by punk rock and their early sound reflected a little of that: See the Children.

Radiohead is known as a rich sophisticated experimental band: Street Spirit. They didn't always had all those qualifications though. Named On A Friday at the start, they sounded quite normal and happy: Happy Song.
