Hahaha this song brings back some memories!

Wow. This sounds really beautiful, but sad.

Some Erhu music by Jia Peng Fang

Mr. Jia plays the Erhu and uses some piano and other instruments to accompany his erhu, so it doesn't sound too sad (I suppose). If you haven't heard of Jia Peng Fang, check it out.

Ah, This sounds so familiar, I think I might've heard in a old Taiwanese series and might have it on CD. I think it's a popular piece:

    Moon Reflected on Erquan Pond
    Erhu solo by Zhou Wei
    Music by Hua Yanjun

Listening to all this erhu, reminds me of this elderly man who oftens sit by the top of the subway station and plays the erhu in exchange for money. Sometimes he would be out there during cold weather too. But he's quite professional, he has a small speaker and some accompanying music too.

^ The first 2 videos arent bad but theyre totally pwned compared with the piece The Moon Reflected in Erquan pond -- 二泉映月 -- Erquan ying yue. Erquan ying yue is a classic of Chinese tradional music. It was composed by Hua Yanjun -- 华彦钧 -- aka Ah Bing -- 阿炳, a well-known folk musician, in 1949 or 1950 after his eyes had become blind. I however like the piece when it's played on the combination of the Erhu and the Yangqin better than when the Erhu is coupled with Western/modern instrument(s): http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=TUBuUTTnTRA. Another good cooperation of the Erhu and the Yangqin: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=6kmLxZkT6y8&NR=1 -- Jiangnan chun se -- 江南春色 -- The scenery in Jiangnan in the spring.

speaking of mongolian songs, i've always liked this one. though, i think they put a more modern twist on this one

btw, i'm going even more off topic, but anyone heard of the the mongolian violinist degi? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs3XcFBcBmQ

speaking of erhu...i'm pretty sure everyone's heard of this one

^ The song in the 1st video is very cool, love it, tho I dont understand a single word. If you wanna discover more about Chinese and Mongolian tradional music check out some musical pieces played on the Matouqin -- 馬頭琴 -- aka Horse head fiddle aka Morin Khuur, a traditional instrument of both countries. The Matouqin's sounds are kinda similar to the Erhu's but more powerful and masculine, maybe because the instrument has been associated with nomadic people who lived in the steppes in the North.
