I like Tony ZWJ the best too. He was cute and charming, seemed like he had chemistry w/ all the girls back then

Some more clips I've found, sorry, it's in Vietnamese again

Scene where Kitty ZM bited ZWJ's hand, I thought that was so cute. The clip also has scene where ZM applied poison on ZWJ's hand to make the wound deeper to form a scar, so ZWJ can remember her forever. Then ZWJ want to bite ZM's hand so she can remember him too

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZYFe1YnOM4

I love Patrick Tsang, he was the coolest, suavest XX ever.

Goodbye scene w/ Maggie Siu XY and ZWJ
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmbnF...eature=related

I thought Florance Tan's outfits were prettier, I'm not going to mention the XY from 2000 version, she was butt ugly.

Scene where ZM pretended to be ZWJ, at the Beggar Clan, also part where they were hiding behind a tight space, and their faces touched, it was so romantic. Look at Kitty's eyes, so mischivous.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-eEj...eature=related

Scene where ZM say goodbye to her father, it was very emotional, every time I watch it, I would cry again

    a) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMhv1...eature=related

    b) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qWZa...eature=related

The ending, it was so cute that ZWJ hold ZM and swirled around

Cathy Chow is the best Zhou Zi Ruo. Too underrated because not many people have seen her version.

Ahhh... you've hit on some of my fav scenes again!

(Apologies to those who haven't seen the '86 version! Tifftiff, maybe you and I ought to start a thread on the '86 HSDS at some point so we don't go too far off topic! )

I really like how touching all the relationships in the '86 version were- Maggie's parting scene with Tony I found the most touching thing about their relationship- how they muttered, after they parted, "Take care." to each other was heart-rending. To me, that's the scene that defines XZ best!

ZM and her father make me want to cry every time too! I didn't like the novel making ZM seem rather blase about leaving her family behind, and Liza Wang, in her version, was so strong she took it in stride. Kitty's ZM had the right look of vulnerability and atypical (for ZM) regret when her father turned away from her at last.

At some point I could sing that ending song for HSDS '86 even though I didn't even understand half of what it meant.... ... its still one of my favorite TV theme songs to this day! I still remember how HAPPY that ending made me... just watching them being idyllic in various peaceful scenes as that gorgeous song plays on in the background- heaven!

    Hihihihi, yanfeng

I love HSDS 1986 a lot, I can watch it all day and not getting bored. I hope I'm not hijacking this thread , if I do, you guys please say so

Yeah, I remember 2 songs from the series too, but have no idea what it meant either . I think HSDS 86 was really a classic. I think that Tony was a very likeable ZWJ, Kitty was the best overall ZM, and Sheren was the best ZZR. I set standard when watching the 2000 and 2003 versions. The fighting scenes were more real, and the acting and chemistry between actors were visible and not arkward.

I hope Ady's version will turn out ok, as long Ady don't bring on any extra cute/silly/childish expressions, then I'll be cool

I second that about Ma Jing Tao... and _way_ too much tears in this one too.

But for me the highlight of this version was actually Yang Xiao! He was superb... specially in the beginning with Xiao Fu.... charming, debonair, suave, skilled and devil-may-care about what the world considers right. Stunningly, while this version gave the worse of everything else, most- I hasten to add- due to the style and script (I'm not a fan of soap operas), but manage do give us the best Yang Xiao to date (in my opinion of course!)!

Thank you for the clip, sugar

Geez, Cecilia looked like a female disciple from Wudang! Her hair and clothes looked like rag. How come they didn't cast Kathy as ZM? She was a lot prettier than Cecilia. Kathy widened her eyes a lot in that scene too. Anyway, HSDS 94 was horrible to watch for me

Totally agree with you on this version's Yang Xiao. Suen Hing was great as Yang Xiao.

about yang xiao.......in 2003 version i only see yang xiao as the qianlong emperor in hzgg 1,2 no offence

What was cool about HSDS 03 was that they got the Iron Trio, Zhang Tielin as YX, Wang Gang as Zhao Min's dad and Zhang Guoli as Chen Kun.

My god, what on earth was going on in that scene? It just felt like a screaming match where everyone was trying to outdo each other exaggerating (HXM will fit in there nicely). ZM seems like a mad and angry woman, a total opposite of what ZM was. I thought the way ZM was scripted in the wedding scene for the 2003 version was bad but i think this one's worse. I've watched quite a few clips of Kathy's ZZR before and I have to say that though she's a very appropriate-looking ZZR and did well for ZZR's "nice and early" scenes, I didn't like her acting at all after ZZR went "evil"- it was very exaggerated with enlarged fierce eyes and stretching of lips which screamed "crazy" to me.

I've watched the wedding clip for the '86 version and i find it alright; would probably like it more if i understand the dialogue. Up till date, I still like the wedding scene in the 2000 version most. Gigi's acting and the way ZM was scripted seemed most identical to the novel. Lawrence was good and even Charmaine was decent- one of her better ZZR scenes in that version.

I really disliked how they scripted ZM for this scene in the 2003 version. Alyssa's acting was alright but the script made ZM wishy-washy, hesitating a little here, a little there, even waiting for ZWJ to make up his mind, when in the novel, ZM was clearly bent on winning this gamble and was calm, quick and snappy, hence disallowing ZWJ any time to ponder and reject her request.

With regard to ZZR's reaction when ZWJ leaves her, I still like 2003's portrayal best. I may be biased since I'm a fan of GYY but i thought her ZZR showed the most emotion without need for much dialogue or over-the-top acting. It probably also has to do with the cinematography because the director allocated a lot of time for ZZR to react (unlike the other versions) after ZWJ agrees to ZM's request and had the camera zoom in a lot on her eyes which showed much hatred and anger. I actually thought the wedding scene was ZZR's best scene for this version.

I know the discussion is on ZM at the moment, but after looking at the mv w/ Charmaine, I am reminded of something. What i find most disappointing in the 2000 version was the scene when ZWJ left the cave. He entered as an adorable actor that I liked and left as Lawrence, who looked unfitting.
How come most 江湖 (jiānghú) wanderers never worry about money? I wonder how a 大俠 (dàxiá) make a living...does meddling in people's business and righting wrongs pay well?

i think kathy chow (she plays YK's mom in the newest LOCH right?) and GYY somewhat resemble each other.

They do! I heard that the stylist for Kathy's ZZR also styled GYY's ZZR. No wonder the similarity.

BTW, I found the clip for 2003's ZZR during the wedding scene.

The only annoying part is the CGI used when ZZR attacks ZM. Seeing how many slashes ZZR unleashed, its a wonder how ZM only has a single wound on her shoulder and still manages to walk out alive!

2000 version (though i have no idea what language its dubbed in!)

Very nice! Watching that scene really reminds me of why I like Gigi's ZM- soooo cool!

Actually in contrast, GYY looks cooler in the wedding scene than Alyssa did... though I really enjoyed Alyssa and Alec's chemistry in that version overall.

Just as my 2 cents, here's the 1994 wedding scene in original dubbing (mandarin)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9y1csGFMrtY

Here's a very short clip of the 1970's HSDS with Adam Cheng (not the full version, just them discussing how ZWJ simply left with ZM)- and you can see how strong and unflinching Liza's ZM is as well!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIj8KBp0rik

BTW, since I might be one of the few people with the chance to see the 1978 version here are a few more clips from it:
    1) The ending which I actually thought Adam Cheng did a good job in- in this version ZM actually 'dies' at the end (its ambiguous). Note that this version, along with almost all the 70's martial arts serials has a kick-*** theme song as well! Sung by Adam himself of course!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0uZ3...eature=related

    2) MV with theme song- and all the highlights of HSDS!
    *Warning Spoilers!*
    a) Here you get to see the elegant Zhao Ya Zhi as ZZR (in blue and then later, in white)- who I think is one of the most beautiful ZZR's ever. See if you like her!
    b) Also Liza's ZM fighting at the Liu Manor with ZWJ (can't emphasize how determined she looks and actually here, Adam's mischevious grin as he snatches her pearl is quite cute too! Reminds me of his signature character- Chu Liu Xiang!)
    c) You get a very seconds of the rarely true-to-novel filmed scene of ZM and ZWJ being surprised by the Wudang uncles when they discover his 7th uncle's body in a snowy cave, and them escaping afterward (with Liza here being very naughty and deliberately throwing herself at ZWJ to make it awkward for him in front of his Wudang uncles! )
    d) More of the wedding scene, where you see, in one single take, ZZR fighting first ZM and then ZWJ- what impresses me about filming then is the total lack of CGI, or even speeding up- its pure basic hand-to-hand combat!
    e) Playful ZM as they pretend to a peasant couple just before the final Shaolin showdown
    f) Final Shaolin show down with a very willowy looking Zhao Ya Zhi all in white- she really is quite gorgeous!
(In the second half of this you also hear something I've not heard before, a lady, who I think is Liza from her voice, singing the theme song usually only sung by Adam!)
    g) ZZR's final confession and conclusion, plus the last few scenes with ZM dying trying to save her father and brother from the combined Wuling forces
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cls70GA3gFk&NR=1

    Enjoy!

I couldn't resist- this is the 2nd love theme from HSDS '86- and its the one for ZCS and YSS (Wuji's parents) while they were on Fire and Ice island... very dreamy and starring very beautiful and young Simon Yam and Dodo Cheng. For sheer nostalgic value, its hard to beat this one!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ste_...eature=related

Also here's the wedding scene from HSDS '86 in original cantonese dubbing with english subtitles so everyone can see!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dvt0HYCSrUE&NR=1

If you guys have any other particular scenes from particular versions you'd like to see, I can try to search for them. No garentees, but its a lot of fun comparing the same scene from different versions side-by-side!

Haha.. you and most people I would say!

I found him not very pleasing on the eye either, but I do like him as an actor and think he did a good job, albeit on a character who was constantly being overshadowed by the female characters!
