So I'm heading out to Norway in 2 weeks and have a 5.5 hours layover in Amsterdam. That's a long time to sit on my *** and do nothing soooo... anything worth checking out around the Amsterdam's airport?

there is nothing to do accept just waiting at the airport. 5.5 hours is not that long, you just wander around, find starbuck, use the wifi and browse. All attractions is in Amsterdam. Stone coffee, RLD, Dutch house and Canal sight-seeing.

I don't know about around the airport area, but as a city, Amsterdam is not for everyone but if you're the adventurous type, you'll love it.

I'm not sure how far the airport is around the city, but one thing you can do quickly is take a stroll in the world famous Red Light District. Who knows, maybe you'll bump into Laviathan. He has been known to give tours there

Stop by the coffee house. They have some good cannabis for decent price. If you want something to make you energetic look for night train or if you want to sleep on the plane try the silver haze. The coffee isn't bad if your into that also.

That depends.
I arrived in Amsterdam and left it by train so I don’t know anything about the vicinity of the airport but if the check-in and checkout are quick and you go with a friend who’s familiar with Amsterdam you will have 2 to 2.5 hours of free time in the city.
That should be enough for you to take a short amble around _one_ of the famous places in Amsterdam (only _one_ pls, don’t be greedy otherwise you’ll miss the flight) such as the Red-light district and the adjacent Chinatown (the Red-light district is disgusting, never will I visit it again), the Van Gogh museum, gay bars :-P,... and have a coffee in a Kaffee shop (I think Kaffee shops in Amsterdam are nothing special. Most, if not all, of them are noisy with music playing quite loudly till the morning. But anyway you should have a coffee there).
If I were you and if the stopover was during the daytime I would take a walk by or a boat trip on the canals. Despite being not very clean they look romantic and the architecture of the houses along the canals is very cute. What a pity you can’t stay there for a longer time or else you would be able to visit the Rijksmuseum, it has a very beautiful collection of Rembrandt’s paintings.

The Amsterdam airport is so cool! I don't need to check out the city. I can spend my 6 hours layover just checking out the airport. It's soooo huge!

It's like somebody built a shopping mall and instead of putting a movie theatre, they decided to include an airport instead. Hehe. I even saw a small casino in there. I'm actually looking forward to my 6 hours layover on the flight home now.
