    Default Too Old Actors/Actresses

In a lot of movie and TV series they have 30 year olds playing teenagers. Does this annoy you?

    Name those movies.

Smallville (TV Series) features twenty to twentysomethings as teenagers and then adults. But I don't know sometimes what they're doing aren't appropriate for teens, so that may be the reason? I don't know. As long as they don't look old I guess its passable. 30 maybe too old to play a teenager.

Although Xu Qing was way too old when she played Ren Ying Ying in Laughing in the Wind I thought that she was still great.

I do find it irritating when an actor is supposed to be a teen and obviously isn't. But it depends on the actor. Some actors can be more convincing in such a role than others. For instance, I've just been re-watching LOCH 03 and I realized that at the time it was filmed Li Yapeng was about 30 years old, while Guo Jing is supposed to be around 18 through most of the story. LYP doesn't look quite 18, but he doesn't look 30 to me, either. And his performance as a naive teenager is convincing, so I don't mind the age difference there. But I'd have a hard time taking him seriously if the character was supposed to be 14.

why do they have charmaine playing young roles....she looks anything but young or pretty. so why have her play a pretty young girl? especially when she can't act...she has no saving grace for her roles. what's even worse is when she is paired with a guy (ie raymond) who obviously looks much younger than her yet her character is suppose to be the younger one. eww, eww, eww...

i think it depends on the acting skills, and looks of the actor.

If they can act "young" in a natural manner, and of course, look young.

The worse will probably be lawrence ng in HSDS. He's like 40, and acting 18!
and i agree the charmaine/raymond pairing makes charmaine looks wayy too old. Especially when there's a close up of charmaine's big face and you can see all her crow's feet.

I think the worst was Dawsons Creek and 90210(the original).

I get more annoyed when they use young and fair pretty boys with fake long wigs to play tough warriors.

Might look ok on the computer screen but with real actors it looks crap.

What's worse is that instead of hiring a child actor, cheapo TVB had Koo play the *thirteen year old* Yeung Gor too.

It really depends on the actor's look. If the actor can look convincing as a teenager despite his age, then it's ok for me.

I notice that in those long running teen series, the actors initially did look convincing as teenagers/young adults. But as years pass by, they become less and less convincing. Like the actors who play Clark and Lex will Smallville. In the beginning, they did look convincing as a 16 year old and a 21 year old respectively. But, after a few seasons gone by, they don't look convincing anymore.

iguess it depends whether or not their looks could pull it off. Like for example, Joe Chen passes for a teen or an early twenty something although she is much older, or ArielLin, or Drew Barrymore for that matter. Some people are naturaly born with baby faces I guess and as long as they dont overdo it, I guess its okay

I think that whole cast was 10 years older than they should be.

Yeah, seriously. Damian Lau as Cheung Chui San? He could have played Cheung 3 Fung believably with the right makeup job.

For me, Gigi Lai was the only saving grace of that series.

    he didn't look 30...

as a 14 year old YG is pushing it, but he looked fine as 18-20 yr old YG. actually, he's probably one of the younger looking Yang Guos out there.

ps. shouldn't this be in the general series section?
