I'll probably check this out before it ends. Rare chance to see some Van Goghs.

Hmm...Is this in NYC? If yes, I might convince my friend to come up with me and visit the museum sometime before it ends too. Haha..what are the chances of SS meeting SC?

I'm so envious of anyone who gets to see this exhibit! Any painting is always better in person. I haven't had a chance to see any Van Gogh paintings in person since I visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam 30 years ago. Sigh.

MoMA is actually the permanent home to "Starry Night" and a few other Van Gogh's so it's not seeing Van Gogh paintings per se that's rare. What's nice is that this time they're collaborating with the Dutch Van Gogh Museum so evidently more works will be available. Van Gogh has some gorgeous night scenes, and his post-Impressionist really paved the way for modern art.
Even if not to see Van Gogh though, I'd really recommend a visit to MoMA for anyone with the slightest interest in art. They say the Louvre is the most important art museum in the world, but even after seeing the Louvre, I still have a soft spot for MoMA.

Heh...I talked with my friend and well, we both decided that we're too broke to make trips up there by bus, then taxi and eat and pay $20 to go see the exhibit. So I'm just going have to stay local and visit my National Gallery of Art Museum and see whatever special exhibit there.

Thanks for the heads up- alas I didn't realize this when I was in NY in Oct or else I would have dashed to MoMa! Love VG... and particularly Starry Night, I guess its a good thing its part of the permanent collection, I'll be able to go see it next time!
For some reasons, I just really can't Van Gogh and think that the whole Expressionism school are nothing but third-rate painters.
"A girl asked me if she should spent money to change the way she look, I told her that she should use it to change her personality instead."
VvG's works are absolute first rate.
One should look at his history and put that in context when looking at his works, and then also see his influence on subsequent decades.

Lol, I do think VG did influenced a host of subsequent bad painters, resulting in some of the most mediocre pieces of modern arts ever produced and sold for outrageous prices .......... but that's another story.
My problem is mainly stylistic elements ............ it is crude, sometimes dull, craftmanship seem untrained, and often produce feeling of "ehhh".
Of course, your milage might vary.
