Default What's the most important element in film?

For you personally, what's the most important element of a film, that appeals to you the most?

For me, oddly, it is the music in the movie. I love the approach of the image taking a backseat to the music, as my favorite auteur Wong Kar-wai often arranges in his works. Quentin Tarantino is another director who places great emphasis on music selection for his movies.

Are there other directors who place such high emphasis on music selection?

    dialouge.

even if the story is bad, a good dialouge can still be entertaining.

LOL, for a movie to be good, it should be include everything in the selection. But if everything is bad, well at least I want my movie to be badass and have the hero kill lots of people every minute - haha in a different way and creative with it.

The Star Wars films are supposed to be opera set in space, and John Williams' music plays a big part in the films' success. Another symbiotic relationship is the Hayao Miyazaki - Joe Hisaishi partnership, where Hisaishi has composed the music for all Miyazaki's films. Miyazaki writes pieces of verse about what the film is about, and Hisaishi composes music inspired by these verse, sometimes even setting them to music (Castle in the Sky, My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke).

You forgot one of the most important elements of film making... directing!

for me the most important element in a movie is "The plot" and second one is Music. Whole movie depends upon both of these elements..

Depends on the genre and the aim of the whole thing...
Plot is of very little consequence in action flicks - or in old-school italian gore films, for example... Fulci's The Beyond is a masterpiece of its genre - but it has hardly any plot to be spoken of...:-)
Some films depend on atmosphere and visuals... And a complex psychological drama or a tragicomedy definitely require more versatile, experienced actors than your typical fu flick.

And of course - it largely depends on the individual tastes of the audience...

The music is pretty important, especially on emotional or important events. It has the ability to make one shed tears especially during emotional moments.

Scenery is also another element that's worth noting, of course this depends on where/when the location/time its based on.

All in all, something visually nice should ideally be coupled with something nice to listen.

The Plot (Dialogue should fit into that), Directing and Acting are equally important, all other elements are important afterwards.
