as i remember from the '03 version (not sure if that version is accurate though...) ZM was trying to force ZZR to show her e'mei kung fu and she wouldnt. and she said that usually when people refused she would cut off her finger but since ZZR's so (theoretically) "pretty" she was going to ruin her face instead. and she also thinks that ZWJ is her "lover" or something so i think jealousy plays a part in it too. but then ZWJ comes in and stops her.

I agree with you, ChineseChik529 - that picture does make LJ look prettier. It's probably both her expression (solemn, has this I'm about to cry look) and her clothing. It's the kind of pale pink that would soften anyone's features.

I like the last shot of her glancing down with strands of hair covering her face. Her blue-and-white outfit is actually very beautiful but somehow I dont think Liu Jing looks very good in it. She looks best in the pale purple outfit imo.

Agreed that last shot of her is the best picture we've seen of her so far - very demure and graceful! (Barring the ones with her and ZWJ on a horse... but that's more the beautiful scenery since we couldn't even see her face! )

Actually I think JY did a pretty bad job with the revised ending in the 3rd edition. It's sort of contradictory somehow. On the one hand, he tells ZZR that he loves ZM the most (though he was thinking how nice it would be to live with all 4 girls) but right at the very next scene, he is shown being confused over who he really loves despite telling ZZR once again that even if he cannot marry ZM (ZZR's request), it would not prevent him from loving or having children with her. Makes it seem like ZWJ's possessed or suffering from bipolar disorder since he seems to be certain of his feelings for ZM one day but doubting his feelings the next day.

The best explanation I can come up with (for ZM fans) for Mr Jin's mysteriously contradictory ending is that ZWJ may love ZM the most but he also secretly yearns to be with all 4 girls. Nonetheless, he knows how much ZM sacrificed for him and hence, decides to be responsible and stay by her side.

JY however, seems to want to portray ZWJ's indecisiveness as a result of him being too kind-hearted/grateful a person, hence wishing to be with all the girls who love him so as not to hurt anyone of them. ZJZ on the other hand (from the article), seems to interpret ZWJ's indecisiveness as a result of him not daring to trust anyone's feelings for him due to his complex childhood experiences.

Thanks for the updates Tiff! I had a feeling that the sunrise/set take would be the ending scene but I'm not so sure now. However, if they are faithful to the 3rd edition, ZWJ will still end up with ZM.

ZWJ might not be sure of his true love at the end but I dont think he'll end up with ZZR. It'll be too drastic a change and will probably face outrage from many HSDS fans- majority of them are ZM+ZWJ or ZM loyalists. Plus, ZJZ has said that he is attempting to stay as faithful to the novel as possible.

Has anyone mentioned that this adaptation has the best looking Miejue ever? Miejue's normally potrayed as a grey haired, old, plump and grumpy lady and this potrayal seems like a breath of fresh air.

HSDS's my favorite JY series and although it has already been adapted umpteen times, I'm not complaining.

I agree- it is very odd. That speech was very moving that he gave ZZR (and that was without knowing that ZM was listening, so it wasn't as if it was in diffidence to her feelings that he said that!) And to have him, in the next chapter, turn around and begin wondering all over again... grrr... seems like JY just deleted the 2nd edition ending and inserted the 3rd edition ending without going back and checking for consistency. Sigh....

Maybe I should become a 1st edition loyalist and insist that JY's original ending is the 'real' ending!

As for this version, it is still formally possible that ZWJ and ZM looking over the sunset is the last scene. Just because ZWJ doesn't really know who he really loves doesn't mean he can't have a nice "quiet moment" ending scene with ZM (who, according to the 3rd edition, he afterall ends up spending the rest of his life with.) Fingers-crossed!

On the other hand, Deng Chao, Liu Jing and others are still stuck at Mt Wuyi, as they have yet to finish filming the last scene(s), which is also the climax of the series- Battle at Brightness Peak. The bad weather and heavy rainfall has caused much delay in filming. An exasperated ZJZ tells reporters that the scheduled dateline is the 18th of this month and if filming doesn't wrap up by then, the production will start to lose money. The longer filming drags on, the more money goes down the drain.
