I'm currently rewatching this 1994 costume series starring Irene Wan, Kenix Kwok, Tan Lap Man, Carol Yeung, Savio Tsang, Patrick Tam which is loosely based on the story of Jing Ping Mei.

This series brings back a lot of nice memories - though I doesn't exactly remember how it ends, but still it has a beautiful cast and colorful costumes. Not to mention Bak Yan as Wong Ma Ma

This is one of my favorite ancient series. I re-watched this series many times. I don;t get bore to watch it. This is also Kenix Kwok 's first ancient series. I like the costumes, they are so pretty and colorful. Great story.


I like the fact that all the guys in this series love Kenix only.

Hey, I just started watching this series a few weeks ago. I only watched the first few episodes though. It seemed interesting but it didn't grab me, I'll probably pick it up again sometime when I am bored with nothing to watch. I have been having issues with my attention span lately, can't seem to get through a series.

I was surprised that everyone in this story liked Ping'er, considering that Pan Jin Lian is more of the lead in Jin Pin Mei and in this drama from what I have seen at least. Ping'er almost seems more like just a side character right now.

I found it funny that the guy playing Ximen... er can't remember the rest of his name for some reason is it Hsing?, always plays this role. But I do think that he does this role well.

Lunar, you are lucky to have the series - I couldn't find any dvd and have to resort to watching online

Ping Er is certainly likable compared to Jin Lian because she is the heroine while Jin Lian is the villainess.

Oh Man! Every single men in here pissed me off! Wu Da Lang was a control freak, Master Cheung was a pervert, Wu Chong was a self-righteous jerk, Hua Chi Hui was weak, the Lee brothers had no personality. My fav male character here is actually Sai Moon Hing, who's character is most fleshed out but he is a jerk too!

Everytime I watch this, I get angry cos of the last scene. Wu Chong is such a robot in saying "You were born a woman so you must accept (referring to being raped, betrayed, insulted, controlled, abused, etc.. all the tragedies that Gum Lin went through)" I don't know why 3 lovely ladied fell in love with this jerk. Maybe TVB has something against Savio or something - he always gets jerk roles.

Yeah, the ending made me hate Wu Chong - though Kam Lien herself was spouting excuses too.

He should have rescued her from his brother when she asked him for help. But yet he and others just 'advised' Kam Lien to accept fate and bear with it.

I agree that Sai Mun Hing is the most fleshed out male character in the series. I did feel a little sorry for him in the end, seeing that he really loves Ping Yee. Not only he did not strike her, he even tried to held her hands after she stabbed him twice with a knife.

But poor Goon Yee... the baby poses no threat to Kam Lien, that was so cruel of her.

The same actor played Sai Mun Hing in two other CATIII movies. You can say that he held the record of portraying the most Sai Mun Hing onscreen.

My fav character has to be Ng Yuet Leung, who I think is Sai Moon J=Hing's 1st (??) wife. She is the nice forgiving one who helps Ping Yee and Chun Mui behind her husband's back.I feel so sorry for her. I mean, she is young, pretty, caring and clever wife, but Sai Moon Hing just keeps getting more concubines and makes her accept.

The dude who played Sai Moon Hing is Sin Lap Man. He plays crazy dudes for TVB during the 90's and is in fact a musician. I enjoy his acting though i don't particularly like - pretty neutral feeling towards him.

If TVB were to remake this series, who will you cast for the respective roles?

I'm up to episode 4. I feel sorry for Kam Lin. It's sad that all her friends and people who suppose to genuinely care for her just ask her to bear it and accept her husband. Maybe her life will be more easy if she accepts Mou Dai Long since Mou Dai Long did try to treat her nice and did love her. But, how can a woman accept a husband who let another man rape her on their wedding night and continue to be a coward in all subsequent visits? Kam Lin could never love him back because he already betrayed her again and again and he himself has beaten her and violated her.

I'm really annoyed at Ping Yee for saying 'Hope she will be able to accept Uncle Mou later since Uncle Mou is a good man' when she knew what has happened to Kam Lin.

But, Kam Ling shouldn't have encouraged Mou Dai Long to marry his daughter to a person she doesn't like just to spite Ping Yee. Ping Yee is innocent. Kam Lin herself has gone through a forced marriage. She should understand the feelings.
