Working with NJStar

I've got a question for anyone who uses this WP app. I have a copy of NJStar, but I don't think I'm using it to best efficiency.

When I type in a pinyin word, I get a selection of characters at the bottom of the window and I can select the character I want by clicking on it with the mouse. I've noticed that I can type a tone number after the pinyin and it will sometimes select the correct character, but about 50% of the time I end up with whatever character is first in the selection of possible characters shown at the bottom of the window.

Is there a way to use the tone numbers to get the right characters, without having to use the mouse? I mean by just typing the pinyin with the tone number and then hitting the Enter key.

You see the small numbers accompanying the words that come up? Hit the corresponding number keys on your keybd.

i never use the mouse to select characters.

if you have a common two(multiple)-worded vocab, it's easier to type out the whole word.

you can also use "<" & ">" keys to move from one list to the next list.

Thanks! It never occurred to me to try typing the number of the list item I want to select - that's probably why if I tried typing the tone number I got the wrong character! D'oh!

Okay, so I started using the NJStar Online Pinyin method and it's so much faster for typing! I had been using the standard pinyin.

But is there a way to type the actual pinyin with tonal indicators, instead of Chinese characters? I've been poking around in the various menus but can't find anything that appears to allow me to do that. Do I just have to do it by typing in the tone numbers instead?
